I am REALLY close to getting my Fiero running. Well, it is running, but with a Series II TB on my 3800 Series 3 setup. When I bought my engine with extra parts for the swap, I was told it came with a Northstar TB, as well as the adapter plate. Turns out, it is a Series II TB, with the adapter plate to make it work on the Series III snout. So, the engine idles fairly well, but any accelleration at all, it chokes and coughs. It is just getting ALL the wrong sensor readings from the TPS and the MAF, as well as the AIT sensor.

I am off to the junk yard tomorrow, in hopes I can get the Northstar Throttle Body, and the MAF that I need for this setup. I have no idea what vehicles to look at to get the parts. I am trying to save a few hundred dollars by getting the MAF and TB from the junkyard. I already ordered THE $169 KIT THAT I NEED from ZZP. Seems I already blew $100 when I bought the new MAF for this Series II Throttle Body......

Any help is much appreciated!

What MAF is your PCM programmed for? Match the hardware to the software and you should be close enough in the tune to idle and run correctly. I got my LQ4 MAF from eBay.

I use a 2000 N* TB with my setup. 00- up may be the same. Works great but you must install an external MAF and table in the 3800SC PCM program and tweak the fueling from there. You will also need the N* TB adapter. I run the larger LS1 MAF
Note Correction. Brain freeze when I wrote this

From what I understand, my PCM is programmed for the LQ4 by Fieroflyer.

I am aware of the adapter tube, it is part of the kit I linked above.

So 1990 and up on the TB....Ok, what vehicles have this TB installed? I need to know a vehicle, so I can find one in the junk yard. from what vehicles. Also, what has the LQ4 MAF on it? I don't know if its just my lack of knowledge, but it seems like it would be hard to find these parts in the yard tomorrow, with no Idea what vehicles to look in. Newer than 1990 narrows it down a little bit I guess hahaah

Ok, I need to get my PCM reprogrammed, I am told that Ryan is the guy to do it. How do I get ahold of him. I hear he has a website that you input all your information as to what you want done.

Ryan is at Sinister Performance ... you will only deal by email. He is harder to reach by phone than the Pope!

The LQ4 TB is also a popular choice on 3800's but you may still need to run a larger inline MAF sensor to take advantage of the better flow.

LQ4 MAF will require a wiring harness adapter to run the integrated AIT. You can also use the smaller (3.5") LT1 MAF and use your stock harness and AIT.

I am dealing with parts and settings, harnesses with 2 throttle bodies already, I am not going to add a 3rd one in the mix any time soon!

How do you look up a part, to find out what all vehicles it is on. The only way I am familiar is providing the Vehicle make, mode, year, engine, transmission type ect, to get the part numbers.

So if you know at least one year/make/model find it on rock auto and usually the part number will be a hotlink. click on that and it will bring up a list of all vehicles that is used on.

Understood but the main PCM changes will involve the MAF that you choose to use. A 3800SC will start and run with many GM TB's and only simple changes to the program will be needed. In the case of a different MAF sensor, the entire MAF table will need to be imported into the program.

Ryan from Sinister emailed me yesterday. He sent me a form to fill out with all of the details of the engine, donor car, transmission, recipient car, tire sizes, exhaust size, with ot without CAT and so forth. We have been emailing me back and forth with questions and wanting more details on things. One question in particular was about the MAF. Come to find out, there are 2 variances that have 2 different tables that will fit the series II throttle body. I had to take it out, and get detailed pictures of everything. He was then able to determine which one it is.

I purchased a PCM with a 6mo warranty on eBay, for $16 with free shipping, and had it drop shipped to him. He will have it no later than Friday. For that price, and the time saved packaging this one up and shipping it to him, it was worth it just to have a spare.
