Fiero friends,

Can anyone recommend a shop in the San Diego area for transmission work on a Fiero? I'm not sure if it is the transmission or the clutch at this point, but I am leaning toward transmission. I'd like to find a place with some experience with Fiero's, which gets harder and harder every year. I'll appreciate any help anyone can provide. The transmission is a stock Getrag.

You need a place that is familiar with the Getrag 282, and those folks are getting rare, as are some of the parts.

You might talk to Metro Transmission in San Marcos , 1635 grand ave , 760.471.0223. Its near the 78 freeway.
I have not been able to find a fiero shop in north san diego cty (am in carlsbad) but went to Metro as a recommended
shop. I had a clutch noise, I thought, they could have sold me a clutch but found it was the dust cover rubbing.
That was several yrs ago, also had a clutch fluid leak and sticking brake rotor more recently, they seem to be an
honest shop. I have an 87 gt manual shift.

Thanks for the suggestions. I might look into the place in San Marcos. I got a shop recommendation from someone in the local Fiero club and gave them a call. The guy seemed familiar with Fiero's and the Getrag, and estimated roughly $2600 over the phone! For that kind of money I think I might look into upgrading to one of the more modern 6 speeds. I'm going to do some research on mating one of them with the 2.8 before I drop that much money into the Getrag.
