Nice car lost. Sad, but a reminder that many of our gasoline and trans oil lines are over 30 years old. There are three fire extinguishers in my Fiero at all times even though all fuel lines are braided stainless steel. Another possibility could have been an oil leak. An oil spill on the hot cat or exhaust will cause a fire. I knew a guy who had a fire due to a turbo oil feed line slipping off its attachment point and spilling oil all over the engine. Thankfully he had a fire extinguisher and was able to put out the fire. Its not that Fieros are prone to fires but that some Fiero owners believe that oil and fuel lines can last forever. They do not.
Word to the wise; replace all fuel hoses, trans oil hoses (autos) and fuel fill line elbows to prevent a fire and always carry at least two fire extinguishers. .
