It's Fiero Friday, so I drove my 85 2M6 SE to work this morning and on the way in the cruise control stopped working. It started to mildly accellerate and decellerate while on a flat stretch which I thought was odd, so I turned it off and back on and when I tried to set it again it wouldn't stick. If anyone can advise what needs to be replaced, where it is, and how difficult of a job it is I would be greatly appreciative.

Check the vacuum canister and the associated hoses first.

Also check the brake & clutch switches, easy way to test those, while driving, with left foot, pull up on the clutch Pedal, try the crusie control, do the same for brake.

I had this problem on one of my Fiero's, if you find working after trying this, just adjust the switch. Good luck.

If it accelerates by itself it is probably the cruise servo unit. You can try taking it apart and try cleaning the one large steel rod plunger. That works occasionally.

If not get a new cruise servo.

Mine did the same - purchase a new cruise control switch (Dorman 1/3 the cost of AC Delco). Checked brake switch (I have an automatic) it was functional - checked all vacuum hose connections- all were good - checked the cable. Found the following page for info (www.michiganfieroclub.com/files/cruisecontrol) lots of good info and then I figured I'd try one more thing before I started to replace parts ---- I pulled cleaned and reinstalled the electrical connections on the servo and solenoid -- That was the problem and the cruise is working again.
