LOL don't I know it, my 88 has sat at least 50% of the time needing repairs, OK, so part of that is my fault, although I enjoy working on it sometimes, at others, ... well I got better things to do. one of the 23 worst lemons
I especially get a chuckle out of the guys listing their Fiero that say "has the highly desirable Getrag 5 speed transmission"
yeah, highly desirable if your idea of a good time is working on it, ROFL
There's that picture! The backward picture of the Indy with no decals. Its used to illustrate the Fiero on all of this kind of lists. Wish I owned a piece of the copyright on it.
I read that article & didn't even both posting about here as :
a.) The author seemed to target mostly economy cars b.) The author didn't even touch on lemon issues c.) The author said they are impossible to find
Clearly this dinkus doesn't know what he's actually talking about. I mean, he even listed the Ford Escort. Not only was that car not a lemon, they simply renamed it to Focus as part of their F & F renaming scheme.
And to the OP, working on the Getrag 5 speed? The only "work" related to the transmission that my car ever needed was a slave cylinder (seals tend to go bad after 25 years), and a clutch (again, 25 years and 95,000 miles tends to result in a clutch that's a bit slippy). The trans itself is dead solid. It could be put into another Fiero, with a new clutch and throwout bearing, and probably last another 100K miles. It's only getting swapped out of my car, because I'm doing an engine swap and want a 6 speed.
Agreed; I rarely read more than one or two pages of this type of list, but this one was so bad it was laugh-out-loud funny.
I think you could probably mix up the car names and the descriptions at random and the article would be just about equally accurate. My favorite parts were how the Escort was noted for its dependability but that somehow classifies it as a lemon. Say what? And how the Olds Achieva had "major facelifts" during its production run. I must have missed those! And don't forget how Chrysler took four spots with the K-cars, then the K-cars each separately, and finally a K-car derivative. That's like a junior-high kid padding his book report by repeating the same paragraph four times in four different ways.
Why do they show a picture of a European Chevette?
Ooh. The original Brazillian Chevette. Would love to find one in the US. Great cars for throwing a ridiculous V8 in and bracket racing.
I agree... great bracket racer.
Aside from that, .the guy who wrote this has his head planted so far up his ass that he is breathing fresh air.
Apparently doesn't care much for the Chrysler K cars... even though they were successful enough to save Chrysler.
VW Beetle... WTF? They only sold about 21 million of them.
VW Rabbit (er...Golf)... VW's best selling model ever! Sold more than 30 million, thereby obliterating the sales record set by the Beetle.
Ford Pinto... OK, only a little over 3 million sold over a relatively short production run. And it wasn't nearly as bad as some would have you believe.
Chevette... Again, sales were just shy of 3 million over a relatively short production run.
Yugo... a poorly executed Fiat, but highly succcessful in eastern Europe. Still, he may have a point here
30 years is plenty of time to turn lemons into lemonade. Pending the rumored mid-engine C8, it's still the one and only mass produced American made mid-engine car. And that, if nothing else, makes it a classic.
Note also it says the K-cars had a "smooth ride" but the Dodge Aries (a K-car) had a short wheelbase so its ride was "less than comfortable". Shorter than the Plymouth version?
If you keep reading articles like this, and believing them, there's no telling how screwed up you are going to get.
