I've been away from fieros for about 10 years. What break throughs on durable, affordable trans options for the higher hp crowd? What swaps are popular now?

The f23 seems to be the affordable one for 5spd options, and the f40 is also around as a more expensive 6 sped swap. Both can hold their own.

Loads has happened in the last 10 years. More 3800SC , 4.9L, Ecotec, N* , high feature V6, LS 1,2,3, 4 7 swaps. There are new unique interior/exterior items and additional services, Fiero Store always coming up with new parts and it seems that 17" wheels and tires are becoming the new norm.
The Fiero hobby has been and continues to be a creative and dynamic place. Welcome back.

Good to see you!

The F23 seems to be the manual of choice.
I am kind of partial to the 93 Beretta Getrag (aka New Venture T-550.) It's essentially a 282 with a beefier differential and an integrated hydraulic release bearing.
F40 six speeds are also popular, but require a lot of fabrication.

Maybe old news, but several people have done, or are doing, LX9 or LZ9 (3.5 or 3.9) swaps.
Lots of LS swaps. Some of them were probably taking place when you were last here, and are still works in progress.
BMWguru installed a Saab 2.8 turbo, and an F40, into an 88 GT. This is the only High Feature V6 Fiero swap that I know of.

I was trying not to be negative, but I didn't know there was even a single instance of a high feature V6 swap. It's getting more and more difficult to swap modern V6 engines into a Fiero. The only crate engines I know of that come with standalone controllers seem to be the LS V8 motors.

If GM keeps pushing this "we one the software in your engine computer" crap you are going to see more standalone engine computers.

Maybe Google will jump in with an open source engine controller?
