May 9 Spring Driving Tour - Gurnee IL to Racine, WI
Uncover your Fiero, get ready for summer weather, and join your fellow NIFE members on Saturday, May 9, 2015 for a spring cruise through southeastern Wisconsin.
First, we’ll stop at the Wind Point Lighthouse in Racine, one of the oldest, tallest, lighthouses on Lake Michigan that is still operational.
Next, we’ll visit “Wingspread,” the 14,000-foot prairie-style home Frank Lloyd Wright designed for the S.C. Johnson’s third-generation leader H. F. Johnson and his family. It is a remarkable place to tour, with features like a disappearing dining room table, a teepee-inspired clerestory ceiling in the great room, and the cantilevered “Romeo and Juliet” balcony in the bedroom. Also, we’ll watch a screening of the history of the construction, and the story of the owners.

After visiting Wingspread for about an hour, we will head out to lunch at a local Racine restaurant, then depart for a five-mile drive south to the S.C. Johnson Company headquarters campus in Racine, WI where we will tour the Frank Lloyd Wright designed 13-story research tower, where most of the S C Johnson products were developed, and Wright’s Johnson Administration building. Next, we’ll see the modern, award-winning Foster + Partners Fortaleza Hall, including the S.C. Johnson Gallery. All of the tours are FREE, with plenty of parking. We will leave from the McDonald’s at the Gurnee Mills shopping center at 9:30AM to start our “Inspired Architecture Tour”. This McDonald’s is located at 6380 Grand Ave. exit (RT 132), West of I-94. (Watch Fierofocus.com for final details prior to the 9th of May).

How far was this from the carnival area? I was turned away at the barricades but maybe that was because it was well past 7.

I'm surprised Wheaton didn't do the regular Friday cruise night. Just a few random cars along Front St.

For the Woody BOP show on the 15th, do you have to pre-register or can you just show up? My Fiero is finally up and running and I could swing by (dealers only a few miles from my house).

For those from the South and western suburbs, we will meet at Augustino's Rock N Roll Deli located at 300 W. North Ave, West Chicago, IL 60185 at 7:30am as we depart at 8:00am. From here we will rendezvous with everyone at our second meeting location which is the BP gas station located at 508 S Route 31 in McHenry, IL 60050; begin arriving at this second location anytime after 8:30am as we will leave promptly at 9:00am from this second stop. We will see the 40-inch refractor, still the largest lens-type telescope in the world, which began research work in 1897.

After the tour we will travel to dine at Riga-Tonys Italian Deli located at 5576 State Rd 50 in nearby Delavan, WI 53115. We will view more of the lovely scenery of Fall in Wisconsin/Northern Illinois as we head back to Volo, IL. We will end our day in the parking lot of the Volo Auto Museum. It was a good day at the Indian Uprising All Pontiac Show in St Charles IL. Attendance was little down because of threatening weather, but only a few sprinkles and I think we all had a good time. 9 Fieros were in the show and 6 took home awards.

Here are some photos from the show: https://www.facebook.com/me...&type=1&l=110903ce2a

See everyone next weekend at the Woody Buick, Buick Olds Pontiac Cadillac Show.

It was a hot time at Woody Buick today. It was a good show and we had a chance to check out JFrost's 3800 swap, it is a clean build and sounds nice.

Thanks Woody Buick for a good show and for sponsoring Fierorama.

Our next events are the Heartland show and then the biggie -- The 20th Anniversary Fierorama!!!
