I'm getting ready to replace the dew wipes on my fiero, and figured since I had the door panels off, I'd replace the window motors. I found some on Rock Auto, and most say "Front Left" and "Front Right". I've only got the drivers side off, haven't done the passenger side yet, so I haven't been able to compare the motors. Are they both the same motor? I wasn't able to specify "Front Left" or "Front Right". Didn't know if they are the same or not.

Thanks

If they are working I would not replace them, imo the quality of the replacement motors is not very good.

Thanks horns. I assumed they were the same, but with the way my weekend went, I wasn't taking a chance haha.

Csjag,
They are working, but extremely slow and labored. I'm afraid if I don't replace them now, they will fail soon, and I'll have to get back in there sooner rather than later.

Has anyone tried Rodney's electric window helpers? I've been considering getting a set.

Make sure you clean the channels good and lubricate them. I use white lithium grease. Sometimes the contracts in the window switches build up high resistance and make the window move slow. You can take them apart carefully and clean them.

I found that cleaning the terminals on the window switches helped a great deal with the speed. I measured the resistance before and after, and had a good drop in resistance after cleaning. Get some contact spray at Radio Shack ( if they are still open!), and just spray into the side openings on the switch while you manipulate it back and forth. A couple of minutes work is worth it.

I did both on the drives side and it got faster. I also bought Rodney' s fix but haven't put it on. I keep buying to much stuff before I get one thing fixed. I also thought one was good for both side.

If you have never replaced window motors...

BE VERY CAREFUL!

I almost chopped of my thumb after drilling out the rivets and then picking the assembly up. It guillotined my thumb, and I had to run swearing and hollering for help in removing it from my hand. After prying with 2 screw drivers, and a LOT of pain, it came off. I had never done this before, but can tell you I would know how to avoid that next time!

I Did actually create a thread warning others of potential dismemberment LOL!

Here is a snippip from the post:

Here is a photo of the regulator. The red arrow is the direction it slammed down on my thumb, and the green area is where my thumb was stuck. The yellow area is that nice triangular point that went right down to the bone. The closest thing I can associate it with is one of those cutters to remove the end of a cigar!
