Hello. Just curious if anyone here had heard of this show and plans to go. As of now i do plan to go. The show is run by the North Coast Pontiac Club. I believe the show is now also open to other orphan makes such as AMC, Oldsmobile etc. http://www.poci.org/POCI_Lo..._Details.cfm?RID=266
I have not attended this one but I have attended some of their other shows. But some of the people I know from the past Cleveland Fiero's have attended this one.
Fiero owners attend at your own risk from what I can get from the others. Some years they have been good to the Fiero and other years they have treated the Fiero's as the red headed step child.
They are friendly but classes are often not suited for a Fiero and often added like an after thought. Keep in mind these car GTO, Firebird and large Pontiac owners generally pre 79 and they have a little distain for the later cars.
I went to the shows at the school they used to have and everyone was nice but it was participant voting and there really was no Fiero class.
The bottom line is if you are going to compete it may be a mixed bag and if you go just to see older Pontiac cars it is ok. As for what the show will be like this year it could improve as with each year and different people in charge it has changed for the better or worse.
I would recommend if you are going to go to a Pontiac event go to the Pontiac Tripower nationals at Norwalk. The vent is much larger and much better run. The judging is good or as good as it can be. There are classes for the Fiero and even if you have a custom one in a open class most Fiero's dominate as they are judged not participant vote. Several Fieros even have won the top Ames Pontiac award for highest scoring cars in 5 classes. If you are looking for the Pontiac show to go to in the mid west this is the event to go to. Note they also have drag racing all day and they also have a very large swap meet that often has Fiero parts mixed in. I found a 24 valve Pontiac motor sports head there a couple years ago complete with cover.
One of these years I may drop in on the Solan show for Pontiac. This year I thought about hitting the 2 seat car show there in August.
So if you go to this even I would recommend being open minded as it could be a good show or there is a chance you may go away not happy. This one you just never know what you might get. In years past they said they can't get enough Fiero's but with the way they were treated many never went back. It is the if you had more cars we would treat you better and if you treated us better you would have more cars. Yin/Yang.
I think I may wait till Aug 26 and make a run up there.
Also note two very good Pontiac shows are the one at Summit Racing in August and one a week later at Toth Buick GMC in Akron. Both shows have good turnouts and there are no classes. They score the cars on points and give top 30 awards and special awards. They both have been Fiero Friendly.
So many people have a bad experience at some of these other shows and then miss out on the good ones. It is a shame.
HyperV6, you really seem to have your finger on the pulse of the shows. I'm not really concerned with the show part of things. Although I will be rolling a freshly painted car. I just like to meet up with car people. My sons car has ripped up seats and everything, but what we come out of it is meeting good people and to hell with the show. It's just a side bar really. But hey. After all the money I put into my car, recognition is pretty cool too.
A lot of people in my opinion recoil from cruise-ins and shows because they think their Fieros are not perfect. I say the hell with that. Be proud! Isn't that what the Fiero is all about?
Either way you go this show and the NEO POCI group are not interested in Fiero's and showing or not they are now warm to our cars for the most part. I am not going to say that there are not any nice members but like stated we have been treated as red headed step child's in the past. Note if you have a finished show car the treatment is not great and if it is beat up it is even worse.
Remember most of these guys are more worried about the right linkage on their 64 GTO tri power vs. anything made post 1979 the last year of the Pontiac 400.
I kind of understand part of where they are coming from as the post 79 cars became more and more corporate and less and less Pontiac accept for the Fiero which is to me the last true full on Pontiac since it was a Pontiac only model, It was built in Pontiac and it also had a real Pontiac engine if it was the 4 cylinder.
Not saying I hate the later cars my self but I can see their point and how the formula lead to the death of Pontiac as they were really Chevys or Buicks with different styling and red dash lights in the end for the most part. They even lost the real Performance too as the only car you could get a Ecotec Turbo in was the Solstice. It should have been in the G6 and G5 with no hesitation. Anyways off the soap box.
I have shown my car since the early 90's local and national and the shows I detailed were very Fiero Friendly if you were showing or not. The folks treated the cars with respect and the owners like wise. The Toth show I had several of the head members of the GTO club running it and they thanked me for coming. They mostly get GTO's at the show and love it when they get some different Pontiacs. I also placed in the top 3 at the event with all the GTO models so they did give me a fair shake. I met a lot of nice people and had a good time. I love Pontiacs of all types and have owned or driven many over the years.
Either way unless they have changed the Solon show has of late been a disappointment to many of the Fiero owners I know and most have stopped going.
If you make it to the Fiero show in August I plan to try to be there. Look me up.
Also you want a good show to meet and greet get to Norwalk. So many people here are really missing out on the best Pontiac show in the country bar none. I have been there all but about 5 of the 22 years and it is great. Made a lot of friends and it Is our time to catch up every year.
As hyperv6 stated, the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk is a great show-friendly to ALL Pontiacs. I've also attended the BOP show at Toth Buick in Akron, the BOP show at Summit Racing and another good "theme" show is Riverfront Cruise In in Cuyahoga Falls. Monday Aug 4th, 2014 is Buick Olds and Pontiac night at Riverfront. I have seen Fieros at all of these shows/cruise ins.
Well the original show posted on the 27th is a no go for me because I'll be out of town. Hopefully though you guys will post up reminders of other events! My car is finally drivable, sure not pretty to look at, but I'd definitely like to take it out and check out other Fieros!
If anyone goes to the early Pontiac show at Solon let us know how it was. We all hope things change for the better. I hope they are a little more Fiero Friendly.
I used to love the Solon cruise. The last year I kinda got tired of it. Tons of newer cars in there like 2014 camaro's and vettes. I miss when the Solon cruise was true non daily driver classic muscle. Since I sold my fiero I have been going to cruises with my bike just to see and its hard to find a good grouping. If any of you guys get together and I am free I may ride out and see everyone.

We will. Got a pretty good group going now. Pay attention to this thread. My car is out of action for about another week. We are chomping at the bit to get going.
I went to the Solon Cruise and we got the event in before the rain. I even made it home 15 min before it rained at my house.
The event is very nice. I was never to the event before and a lot of really nice cars.
I was lucky and got one of the two best show awards. This really ment something as the Camro's, Firebirds, Fiero's and Reattas were all judges together. There were some really good Firebirds and Camaro's there. I had judged them at an other event and knew how good those cars were.
Anyways you all missed a nice event with Fiero Friendly people. I hope they have it again next year with a better turn out of Fiero's. We had around 5 Fiero's there and I don't think anyone was from here.
Yes great show but the group IS NOT Fiero friendly. We had plenty of issues and were called babies at their meeting for trying to "PAY" for our own trophies in order to separate them as they do all other cars and to separate GT fast backs and Coupes. They refused to understand how the GT's beat coupes all the time. They said we wanted to all get trophies and we were ridiculous.
I was the President of Cleveland Fieros and a members of their clubs during this period and remember it well. Our group boyucotted them due to this. RIck B
Rick that was years ago and If I recall correctly that was the North Coast POCI show held at the same place.
The Group running this cruise was the Rock and Roll Street Machines who only do the weekly cruise in.
For what it was worth they were very friendly and accommodating. Even the many members of the Northeast Ohio Camaro Club went out of their way to greet me and even recalled me from the time I used to judge their show. Of coarse I told each one I gave them max points when I judged their car LOL!
They were The Rock and Roll Club was accommodating enough to provide a night where the Fiero was featured. Too bad so few showed up as they have second thoughts next year.
Either way it was a nice show and from what I see as another missed opportunity by the Fiero owners to assimilate with other groups. For the Fiero to gain in status we have to participate in more than just Fiero only events.

Amen to that. If we want Fieros to gain more respect in the collector community we need to bring them out for more then just Fiero only events. For Fierorama Weekend this year we added two events, a Friday night cruise night to one of the larger cruise-in's in the area and a Saturday morning Cars and Coffee that usually includes a lot of high end and exotics. (hopefully some Fieros actually show up).
I have found if I bring a nice Fiero out to a show and treat the other car owners with respect and show appreciation for their cars, I usually get the same back.
