So I make my sad debut about two years after things would have been really great. I bought a 5-spd '88 GT from my friend's father on Nov 2, 2011. They had kept it in the family for several years and I knew what to look forward to -- modified 3.1L engine, Viper alarm system, custom sound designed by "Fiero Jon" in New Jersey, the nines. Unfortunately, on the fateful day of Jan 26, 2012 (less than three months of owning it) a college student decided to take a swerve into a lane of oncoming traffic instead of yielding resulting in the death of my little funmobile. I hadn't much money to buy it to begin with and much less to even consider repairs.
Fast forward to Jan 2014. I now have received my accident settlement for injuries to car and person. That Fiero itch is creeping back in and I know I'll never have the same specifics or luck as with my first find but am wondering if it's a good time to start anew again. I now reside in Minnesota and have the course of the summer to play around with some options but would like to know if anyone has some suggestions or offerings to point me in the right direction.
Welcome! Check the mall here for Fieros being sold all the time. Many of them already converted, with many options. As far as the car in the accident, bang it out and go!
Gosh I wish I could, surprisingly I would actually have the funds now but at the time there was no way I could hold onto a totalled car for a project, move across the country, and afford a replacement at the same time. Time to move forward -- I found a few online as well as at the mall. Budget isn't huge but should be around the $4500 range for starters.

You should reel in a very nice Fiero at that price.
If you want an 88 GT it may take a little more time to find one, they only made 6800 of them. I had to drive to Iola Wisconsin 3 1/2 hours 1 way to find mine.
I am selling an 88 Formula with a DOHC/Getrag swap....Low miles on car itself and very low miles on engine. Car sits on Held aftermarket suspension from and back. Only down side is the car is an AC delete car....

If you would like to meet some AMAZING Fiero owners, we are all getting together for the 5th Annual Tyler Shipman Memorial Car Show in Frazee MN the 24th~27th of July. This is a perfect way to have a look at around 75 Fiero's. Many stock, many highly modified.
Being you are just west of the Twin Cities, you can meet up with a caravan of Fiero's driving from the cities both on Thursday & Friday. You can read more about the car show here. For full information on the Car Show's beginnings, check out TylersToy.com The thread, where you can join the conversation on when and where to meet, check out the thread here.
