You cant show them like that directly from your computer. First you have to have them hosted at one of the free websites so it will have a URL address. I use picturetrail.com. then you insert the [ img ] tags at the beginning and end of the URL with no spaces. Picturetrail inserts those for you. Click edit or quote on this post and you will see how mine look. If you go to my host sight you upload your photo there, then the photo appears with the links you can copy under it (one choice says Forum Posts). All I do is right click on that, then click 'copy'. When you want to put it in the post just mark where you want it and hit CTRL+V. Its a lot easier than it sounds and only takes 5-10 seconds. You can also just copy the URL there and type the [ IMG ] tags yourself. Pennock Image poster works different, and dont work at all for me.
