Which motor would be best for the use of a turbo setup and why. I really need tips and suggestions. I'm a total n00b when it comes to this and I want to do EVERYTHING correctly. I have not done anything to my car yet as I am trying to figure all this stuff out first and its coming across a bit confusing. Perhaps I need to make notes which is definitely what I will be doing this time around. I have posted things before but I feel like I have not gotten anywhere. I would like this time to be different. Thank you all in advance for your helpful insight and knowledge.

The search tool can suck sometimes, but use different word combinations along with the title+ author/ post search. There is so much info out there, you'll find everything you could ever need in 15 mins of reading.

I just did a search for you in all active forums and archives.

I searched for "turbo 3800NA" and also "turbo L36"

I got ZERO returns on both.

Now I'm curious about it.

I'm also in the process of building my own 3800 Turbo setup. Start with an L67/L32 or you may see carnage like Justin did. I got a 99 L67 with 74k on it for $500, mostly complete. Then I stripped it down to the shortblock and scrapped 50% of what I took off...haha.

I haven't heard of any L36 engine blowing up but I've heard of many many L26's breaking rods.

So, in your linked thread, you were pretty ho-hum about this failure and the need to swap engine blocks. What is your present stance on this issue? Would you recommend putting a turbo on a L36?

Thats cause you didn't click the "entire thread" filter, otherwise you wont get many results. Its a pain to sift through sometimes I'll give you that.

I would try to get a supercharged bottom end first. I haven't seen any L36's fail so I wouldn't hesitate to try one out if I had to. The L26 seems to start breaking things over 450hp so as long as your goal was under that It would probably be find. I still think it's a good candidate for a "top swap". You'll never find the limit with an M90.
