FYI, you don't have to post "tests" to check your avatar. Make the change in your profile, then just refresh a page you've already posted in.
Signatures do require a new post for the sig to show up. You can PM yourself and check the sig that way.

Animated gifs in your avatar have to be correctly sized. If they're not the right size, the system automatically resizes them, and you lose the animation. I believe the maximum avatar size is 70x70 pixels.

So wierd that so many people have problems getting avatars to work. I haven't had any problems at all over the years, and I swap around to different Jacks for holidays.

I was using an animated GIF image for my avatar up until recently.

The way to get it to work is you have to resize it yourself using a program that can handle GIF manipulation. I used Paint Shop Pro for it, just because I'm super familiar with it's animation program (it's a VERY old program). I pixel sized it to 70x70, then saved it compressed. I got it to 57 kb, even as an animated GIF. It worked fine, but color quality has to suffer a bit.

That worked for me.
