Driving today my belt started slipping and then i heard a big splash of liquid, laughed endlessly because i knew it had to have been coolant and i checked and it looked like my top pulley (water pump i believe) was drunk. Wabbling really badly. Coolant was splashed everywhere and i had to call my mechanic for a tow. Just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head if this is probably purely the water pump breaking or if the symptoms sound incorrect and rule that out?

If pulley is wobbling, then yes... water pump needs to be changed. Take off the belt and check pulley for play. Is it an original water pump?

Sounds like the water pump to me. Yeah... it's probably time.

Too tight belt can wreck whatever it drives... WP, Atl, AC, etc.
Too tight can make belts to fail too because break the cording layer.
Means Worse then a belt loose.

with both you and Ogre. Doesn't the Fiero store or Rodney sell an idler pulley for that belt? that could solve the over tightening issue.
