Just discovered that it has been illegal in Illinois to use a hand held phone while driving (oops, been doing it for 2 months). Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable unit?

I need to buy 2 (wife and myself) and they need to work with a Samsung Galaxy Exhilerate. I had a Samsung one when I first got the phone and it was garbage. Also have a Motorola that worked flawlessly with my iphone but its a POS with this phone.

Need something easy enough for my technologically indifferent wife to operate and good enough to hear and be heard on while I'm in my truck.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable unit?

I have a few bluetooth units here and I've found that Plantronics make high quality headsets. Personally I like the wraparound headsets as they seem to give higher quality sound as opposed to an over-the-ear unit.

Honestly, I don't know if a wraparound headset is legal to use while driving but I've been using mine for over a year now and I've never had any problem with it. Of course, your mileage may vary though.

I have been using Plantronics blue tooth headsets for more than seven years and am quite satisfied with both the price and quality. I also have a Plantronics wired head set that I have been using as my main aircraft head set for more than 25 years so there is a bit of long term reliability associated with this manufacturer.

I had a Plantronics bluetooth for less than one day. I was using on an iphone 3Gs, and every time a call was connected, the volume dropped to the lowest level and I had to manually turn it up. There was no way to leave it at max level (which was barely loud enough). I called them and they said it was designed that way. Returned it and got the Motorola I mentioned in my original post.

Are all Plantronics units like that?

I highly recommend the BlueAnt Q2 or Q3. They are an excellent headset with good battery life, and sound quality. They also stream media from your phone so you can hear your music and turn by turn directions over your headset.

Second the Blue Ant. They are NOT cheap (My Q2 was about $130 2 years ago)...BUT, it is the only earpiece I've found that I can wear for more than about an hour without pain (and I own several, including jawbone). I've had the Q2 on my head for an entire 9-hour road trip with no issues.

I also have one of the bluetooth speakers and if I clip that on the seatbealt near the shoulder (or jacket coller in a similar location), its acceptable even in a diesel truck on the highway.

I've been using Plantronics for years and they've been consistently some of the best I've tried.
Jabra is also good, and some people rave about Jawbone, but I didn't care for them.

My vote:

Plantronics from Amazon.com (cheapest price almost always)
Done.

I've had good luck with Jabra, and Jawbone.

Right now I'm looking at either the Blue Parrot, or similar Road King.

I'm currently using a Plantronics Bluetooth head set that absolutely stinks because people can't hear me on it, the noise cancelling does nothing.

Does the Blue Parrot have to hear the other person, then repeat that to you?

As an over the road truck driver, I can personally vouch for the Blue Parrott headsets. I have my personal phone, plus my work phone, and the B250-XT+ can not only sync with both phones at the same time - they can answer/make/switch calls between either phone at any given time. Call volume and clarity is second to none. I have no problem hearing people that I'm talking to, and the noise cancelling mics are so good that people I'm talking to can't hear the noisy truck in the background. (They swear that I'm sitting at home on my couch). Battery life is also exceptional. I drive/work anywhere between 10 and 14 hours per day, and I've never had the headset lose a charge on me no matter how many hours I was using it that day. In fact, I was so impressed with the headset that I purchased two of the B250-XT's; which is the same headset, but only sync's with one phone at a time. (One headset was for my girlfriend so that she could talk to me hands free, and one for a friend who rides around in a truck delivering appliances all day).

Blue Parrott headsets are pricey compared to some others on the market, but they are worth every penny - and you are absolutely getting what you are paying for! You won't be disappointed.
