What is the widest tire I can realistically fit on the stock 2002 GP wheel? I'm not necessarily looking to "shoe horn" the widest tire I can, but I want to weigh all of my options.

Or best VALUE? Value= best bang for my buck. Usually confused with cheapest.

My tire shop (Discount Tire) will tell me. I get a thirty day satisfaction warranty for any reason. They are the experts having to deal with this question everyday. They likely have reference charts.

Cheap and inexpensive are two completely different things, most people don't realize that.

So he should get 1 really really good tire, instead of 4 pretty good tires?

You cant really increase the tire width, with out increaseing the rim width too (Big Bucks for both). You can probubley get 1\4 Inch wheel spacer with out any problems (1\2 In max).

A 235 width tire is probably as big as you can go on a 6.5" wide wheel and stay within manufacturer's recommended wheel widths for the tire.

I have a fairly decent budget, and knowing what my tire size limitations are will help me get all of the information I need to make a well-informed decision. Since changing tire size can drastically change the tire performance specs, it can add/remove various brands of tires just by simply moving to different size and thus give me a different selection to choose from.. I want to know what extremes I can go to and thus look for specific tire qualities in those sizes, and find a tire that I like that fits my budget.

Thus why I asked the question I asked.

That's kinda what I was thinking, and the aspect ratios of going from a 225 to a 235 don't line up with overall tire diameter so I'm going to see a change in speedo reading. Not something I want to screw with. Looks like I'm going to be sticking to stock sizes.

I purchased tires from Tire Rack last year. I went with Continental Extreme Contact. The reviews were nothing but amazing. After installing them on the A6, I realized that I made the right choice. An extremely quiet tire, excellent in all weather conditions, and great wear attributes. It really is an impressive tire.
