It's a project my Mom is working on, and she wants a certain font typed out in a spiral to put into a quilt design she is doing.
Thoughts?

Import the design to a word processing program, and use it to place text boxes along the spiral?

She's wanting me to place an entire short story on it. I could do it a line at a time, but I think it would take a long time.
Once she hands me the story I'll have to figure out the fun parts like what size the lettering needs to be to fit on a king size quilt.

I think I would use Excel for this. Take a large enough field on the sheet and make all the cells the same size (X and Y). The go around merging cell groups to create each horizontal or vertical segment. Then you can set the text angle for each side. You can also easily adjust cell alignments/fonts after to try different things to make it look good. There's also a number of effects you could use to make the corners, etc.
EDIT: Sorry Brad...may not work...just tried it and could only get the text + or - 90 degrees...so it would be tough to make the text upside down, unless you insert it as a picture. I thought you could rotate text the full 360 degrees in Excel.

If its going on a quilt just print it normal and cut the strips and sew them on in a square spiral.

Yeah, that's what I would do,( if I wasn't me). But, if I was me, and me was I,(and due to the fact that this is true) This is how I'd do it:
(It actually 'works', I just need to tweak it a little)
Full screen it, so you can puke inside your brain.
and being the case that I is me, I did it Myyyyyyyyyyyy waaaaaaaay

I'm not sure what I just saw, but the name of that video alone made it worth watching.

That was my original thought, but she showed me how that doesn't work.

The way it would work - you save the text you want to end up spiril-i-fied, you launch the 'fat-in-atoooor', and it wraps the text around and around..(when it doesn't get all 'gummed up' .
