Does anyone know where can I download a free 2006 Saturn Ion factory service manual?
My Google search seems to keep leading to the same place where a purchase is necessary...

Did you check your Library? Sometimes they have car manuals.

The Service Manual appears to be kinda hefty - 2003-2007 are the same (3000 pages)

Your best bet may be to get a Haynes (better than nothing).

Thanks for the links; it seems a 'freebie' is pretty elusive! 'Free downloads' have all ended up in the same place where a purchase is required & I can't tell exactly what I'd be buying...

2006 Ion factory service manual

Is there an online 2006 Ion factory service manual?
Is there a free download?

I got the following responses:

I have no idea if there is a free manual, but I'd take a wild guess there is one. Maybe try searching a thing called the "internet".

PS: Maybe you could take the time to stop in the new member thread and introduce yourself. Oh and after that you might open the USER CP to add your first name, location and car info to your "signature".

Joe from Arizona is entitled a Super Moderator. I'm not sure what makes him Super, but most people would guess that David is the first name of a person called David Hambleton; and the 2006 Ion in the question is the car the question is about. Hmmm...

I also posed a question to an online Saturn mechanic, but an answer would only be provided upon a payment of $24.

I guess we're spoiled on PFF...

Saw on another forum that the Ion was called the Pontiac Pursuit in Canada. Which one do you have?

It sounds like he's looking at you as a "leach" (asking for something in your 1st post).

I guess you could have mentioned the car is new to you, and why you haven't been an active member for 6 months BEFORE asking for information.

You are correct, the contributor should have said similar rather that same.
Engine options and suspensions are similar on the Delta cars:

2003–2007 Saturn Ion
2004–2010 Opel/Vauxhall Astra H, Saturn Astra
2005–2011 Opel/Vauxhall Zafira B
2005–2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
2005–2009 Pontiac G5/G4/Pursuit
2006–2011 Chevrolet HHR

We had a 1996 Saturn SL1 (since new) that was bounced into oblivion on an icy highway in 2006 & replaced by a new 2006 Ion.
It's at the age now where repairs are becoming more frequent. I like the factory manuals for the views of the parts etc. - I like to know how things are supposed to be disassembled. Otherwise, it's usually after I break something that I see how I should have taken it apart.

I have the GM 1984 to 1988 Fiero parts catalogue & factory manuals for my 3 Fieros. I actually look at them sometimes even if I'm not researching anything in particular. I spend way too much time browsing PFF & learning about Fieros (& their owners) because, well, obviously I like Fieros! (I'm still driving the '84 SE I bought new in '84)

I have no interest in browsing Saturn forums... an Ion is just a car - maybe if I had a Sky. The sarcastic, patronizing & condescending responses from Joe from Arizona kept me smiling for hours and affirmed my disinterest.

Although I understand a general or similar manual can be useful, I prefer the specific manual for the specific car so the details of accessories, interior parts etc. are specific to what I'm working on. I actually look at the Fiero factory service manuals occasionally for no other reason than interest in how things work and/or are put together.

I'm looking and not really finding it in the "normal" places.

Keep bumping this occasionally and I'll keep an eye out. But I have to be reminded, I have some memory issues.

I thought there might be a Saturn site similar to Fieronews.net with a download section. Nothing has turned up yet.
One Saturnforum.com site suggestion was Alldatadiy.com - might do that...
