No. And that article was hard to read. A competent language shouldn't need the reader to read a sentence 3 times before understanding its meaning. It should be able to be read quickly and accurately.

A language can't be competent. The writer (or reader) has to be.
1. having the necessary ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully. "a highly competent surgeon" (of a person) efficient and capable. "an infinitely competent mother of three" synonyms: capable, able, proficient, adept, adroit, accomplished, complete, skillful, skilled, credentialed, gifted, talented, expert; More good, excellent; informalgreat, mean, wicked, nifty, ace "a competent carpenter"
It's a poor carpenter (like me) who blames his tools for shoddy work.
I do's the best I can.

in informal writing (like on internet fora), i'm casual about punctuation and capitalization, but always with an eye to clarity. if a contraction has the same spelling as a word, i apostrophize (is that a word?) it. wont-won't cant-can't dont-? arent-? capitalization is for proper nouns. if it's the first word of a sentence, well, there it is at the beginning of the document, or preceded by a period, question mark or exclamation point.

I rarely use them myself. The word is clear enough in most cases without it. Saves me a few keystrokes to say the same thing. ie/ cant means the same as can't unless your stupid. Im not being graded on it. More attention to using correct words is more important. Cars dont stop with breaks...they use brakes, for example.

If you want me to read your zhit, it better be intelligible. If you don't want me to think the zhit you write is zhit, it better be intelligible. I go way out of my way (high school drop out) to state my thoughts correctly.

*buzzer* Cant has specific meanings, ie/ angle of an object or specific form a speaking. Can't is a contraction of can and not. They are NOT the same. Ya know, unless you're (your is possessive. you're is a contraction of you and are ) stupid.

Look at definition #2. I just Bing searched competent on my phone and that was right there. I used it correctly.
I'm not a grammar Nazi. As long as I can understand it, we're good. But take that sentence, were and we're are completely different, and the apostrophe makes it much easier to understand.

While you are absolutely correct, if someone reads the sentence, they know what it means. ie/ If i say "I cant go', they should know by common sense I dont mean 'slanted/angled'.

So, instead of specific grammatical rules, we should move to an inference from context system of grammar?
