Don't agree with the whole article but it's definitely interesting. Kinda long if you're short on time.

In the real world, it turns out that no, you can't really order large quantities of anything that goes "boom" without the government kicking down your door five minutes later.

Quoted for truth. Has anyone here tried to buy any simple laboratory glassware (beakers, etc.) recently?

Somebody tell me when the entire concept of patriotism got hijacked by the pickup truck and gun rack brigade. It's at the point where if anyone I knew wore a shirt with an American flag on it, I'd assume they were being ironic, unless it was the Fourth of July. If I pass a crowd of protesters waving American flags, I assume somebody in the group is also wearing a T-shirt bearing a racist caricature of Barack Obama.

Amen.

From the snippets Marvin posted, it looks like a decent article. Anyone care to copy & paste for those at work that don't have access to cracked.com?

I think the biggest thing i have learned is that in general, the American public was so accepting of the pseudo-fascist state we have become.

Speaking of glassware, when was the last time you got a chemical catalog at your door? Or tried to buy large model rocket engines..

Do they still have chemistry class in high school? If so, i wonder if its like when i was there.

In accordance with a long-standing and honored (among some) protocol here on PFF I will simply say: I didn't write the article, I just quoted it. Read the rest for yourself. It contains enough truth to upset liberals and conservatives alike.

The first thing that I thought of when 9/11 happened was what a brilliant operation by these evil people. They didn't even have to buy a bomb. Then afterwards we spend billions (trillions?) on defense and payback plus thousands more of our dead and innocent victims of collateral damage and it's ongoing. Who won? Who's winning? A little off topic, but we're doing the same thing with our financial meltdown. The terrorists are right here and they're wearing suits. Those who were responsible are not being prosecuted and in fact are becoming even wealthier at the expense of the rest of us. The banks that were too big to fail have become even bigger. We are so doomed. I'm living on a pension that is worth less everyday because they just keep printing more and more money and won't give me any interest on what I have if I deposit it in the bank. Sorry for the off topic rant. I just get so discouraged when I see how this country is going. I'll finish my life ok, but I feel so bad about what my kids and the rest of you will have to endure in the future.

You did comment 'amen' after the quote. This implies support of the quoted material, which is what my comment was based on. ( edit: not sure where i got 'off' from. should have been 'on' )

If that was not your intent to support that trash, then you can disregard what i said.

Terrorism has always been the cheapest form of warfare.

My ( not so distant ) future pension just got cut in 1/2 due to the failing economy. ( and i'm sure healthcare funding will be totally gone by then )

The article is written in an irreverent style and may be NSFW or PFF. Basically it says:

The 6 Weirdest Things We've Learned Since 9/11

#6. Terrorism Totally Works!
#5. Apparently Anything Can Be Called "Terrorism"
#4. It's Actually Really Hard to Pull Off a Large-Scale Terror Attack
#3. The Era of Awesome "Good vs. Evil" Wars Is Over
#2. Patriotism Got Really Weird at Some Point
#1. Sometimes the Alarmist Tinfoil Hat Crowd Is Right

That site is really annoying. For example, if you try to close a pop-up asking you to like them on Facebook, you liked them. Very sneaky way to get "likes".

THo OT, ALWAYS close popups with the upper right hand X and never a button. Even better is via task manager. Scamming a 'like' is minor, but some will actually install malware....

( i have only seen once where they masked the X with an overlay "accept" . Not sure if you can do that now or not. )
