apparently Verizon decided to randomly start charging international rates for INCOMMING calls now.... 15minute call $40..... WTF, how can they charge for INCOMING more then the person is paying for the OUTGOING!?
been calling international for almost 2 years now, never had this charge before....
Did you call to see what was up ? Could have been a billing error. With all the computerized tracking/billing i don't see how, but mistakes happen all the time these days.

That sounds like the old days, where all incoming calls, even if you didn't answer, caused a bill event. Id cancel the service and threaten to take them to court if they complain.

A lot of business travelers carry their Vonage adapter with them wherever they go. Then there is Skype. Really, there are multiple options anywhere there is good-quality Internet access available.

Not that its free but I have a NetTalk adapter that does the same ( they had wifi devices before magic jack did ). They have a phone app too.
If its just ONE person, you can always use something like google talk ( or whatever they call it now ) . it doesn't care where you are in the world.

oh, its better then that... its a 'company' phone, I handle all telcom and IT at my job, im 100% allowed to use the phone for personal use, I just have to pay any extra charges that I have.
12stores all land lines, half with dsl, bonded T1's at main location... 15 cell phones..... just got out of a 3rd meeting with Comcast business fiber for full fiber data and VOIP system, looks like it will actually be a lot cheaper then Verizon, and sprint seems like they are hungry for our cell contract (oddly enough is up at the end of next month)... Verizon was 100% unwilling to work with the charges, or to even properly explain why we had no notice of the change of policy. wonder how bad someones going to get reamed for loosing a semi large contract over less then 100 in charges.

I have international and 900 calling blocked. I also found out that texts you recieve and dont answer (i dont use texting) are also charged at like 20 cents each. I had that also turned off. A telephone is a telephone. If I need to call international or a 900 number, ill use my landline.
*on a sidenote, I seen yesterday that New Jersey now say anyone who calls/texts someone whos driving (knowing that) and they have an accident, the caller is held co-responsible.

Telus used to do that to me all the time. As soon as I got close to the Ny or Mi. Border I was getting welcome to the US texts, but they were good about canceling any international calls. The understood that coverage overlaps in border towns.

I just run skype on my phone. Friends in England just call my phone via skype, and talk just like a regular phone. Free.

I'm actually in a huge dispute with Sprint over service. I'm moving all our work and personal lines away from them. I've had their service almost a dozen years. It is actually worse than when I started.

So just have the caller call you on the Google Voice number, and forward calls to your work phone.... Seems simple to me.
Brad
There is a charge for that if its international i think. ( unless i misunderstood ) A friend of mine did that, selected a google number in his home town so that his parents could call it for free. Then it forwarded to his cell phone. ( before you could do voip with your google number )
