Im 28, I lost my bottom 3 teeth and the portion of my jaw that held them in earlier this year (sounds worse than it is). In the same accident two of my top teeth cracked above the gumline so they need to come out. Since my top 4 were always crooked and even chipped Im getting a bridge made of my bottom 3 and top 4 by years end. I have been Thai Boxing since 2010 and I have looked up tons of info on boxers with dental implants, dentures, and bridges. From what I read, the safest method to continue fighting will be the bridges since worst comes to worst they will just pop out. A dental implant is a titanium screw into your jaw, so if that gives, more jaw bone goes by by.
I know I will be cleared to fight again by a random doctor, but I am worried if thats a bad choice, I CANNOT afford this process all over again.

^lol, thats what all my gym buddies say jokingly "dont get hit" , Unfortunately that is not an option in thai boxing. Yes we wear boxing gloves but the true danger is a shin or knee or elbow to your face.

I know times are hard financially for many or at least all of us to varying degrees, but It seems like the only option for you would be something that can be removed (plates or partials). What type of fighting ? and is a mouth guard even an option?

Of course mouthgaurds are perfect especially if you buy a custom made one for your teeth. But in my sport sharp impact points such as knee, elbow and shin are all possible hits to the face. I may have to hang it up and just train / teach for fun

Dentures. Not as good as other options for day to day living but you can just take them out before you fight. Plus something about a guy with no teeth going after you that....... I have some similar problems and chose to stop the heavy training years ago. Of course I am 54 years old so other than giving some unsuspecting aggressive idiot a nasty surprise I am done fighting.

Something tells me that without something structural in there he would be at a disadvantage if hes hit.

^Exactly, it needs to be one peice for solid support.
Anyways the desicion has been made about permanent bridges, that is already in motion. What Im sad is I may have to quit something I love unless Im willing to risk my new teeth.

Not directly related to your question, but you ever fight (or know) Max Chen? (He's pretty well known in Thai boxing, as well as other styles) I did some seminars with his dad.

Jake , I didnt lose my teeth fighting, I lost them in a freak accident. While in Venezuela a roof I was on caved in from under me, I fell 30-35 feet face first into concrete, my arms broke my face's fall and saved my life and from paralysis . Broke both forearms, wrists, forehead and cheek fractured , broke every sinus in my nose and lost my sense of smell, and lost 3 teeth. Im very lucky and happy with how quickly I have healed and I feel great as I write this (no more antibiotics or pain medicine for me!). My wrists are still very stiff I recently had my arm casts taken off. I am in therapy to get full movement of my wrists and forearms back right now.
Taiji, I heard of Max Chen didnt he fight in the Olympics or something? I am not a pro, I have only fought ametuer. Muay Thai is very very small sport in the USA , so while you have the chance to rise up to the very top of the heap here in the states due to not as many people competing as boxing or MMA, there isnt much of a following of people behind it. Everyone wants to do "MMA" as if MMA were a martial art in itself, MMA is a combination of many martial arts that in my opinion has plateaued and gotten stale.

^I dont think I can ever stop training since I love it , only thing I enjoy more than working on GM's . One of my coaches told me that I can always do something else in the field, keep learning to maybe one day teach or be a personal trainer. Or just do it to keep in shape.
It seems full contact may be out. I dont think they have American Kickboxing anymore, that would be doable since there are no knees or elbows. I boxed as a teenager but I cant go back to that since I fell in love with this martial art.
I don't know if Max participated in any Olympics, but I know his dad (William CC Chen) was an Olympian some time back in the 40's. Max has also got a very cute younger sister who also competes. They're all the real deal. And yeah, I don't even watch MMA any more. We always exchange looks and kinda snicker when some guy comes in to one of our classes and when asked about his experience has to throw "I've done some MMA" in to his resume. *everyone* has done MMA apparently. LOL

I have a 21-9 (17 KO) amateur record (all my losses were by decision ). Three 3 Minute rounds decide the fight. Down here in amateur you still have to wear headgear. Im going to the dentist in 5 minutes. I hate going there but I must. By the end of the day I'll have some temp removables .
