Remember those 1959 gore-filled highschool Drivers Education films?
There's a documentary about them,

Signal 30 is one of several Driver's Education films produced by Highway Safety Films, filmed at actual auto accident scenes and consisting largely of color closeups of mangled accident victims. Other titles in the series included Carrier or Killer, Highways of Agony, Mechanized Death and Wheels of Tragedy.

!! CONTENT WARNING !! 1959 car crash victims.

In wood shop they showed a safety film they had made.

They has set up cameras in a large wood working factory and recorded the accidents.
Watching a guy cut off his fingers, and watching a piece of wood go through a guys belly and out his back was enough for me to know wood working wouldn't be my trade.

I really dig the 50s horror movie music. It serves the film right.

When I used to do safety training for a major trucking company, I would show a 20 minute video in which a former driver recounted his true story about what led up to and followed a fatal crash in which he was involved.
It brought grown men to tears, every time.

Ya, I have that DVD set also. Bought it several years ago. Good documentary...
The rationale was to scare people into driving more safely. In truth, it's the car companies that made driving safer with collapsible steering columns, hydraulic impact bumpers, seat belts, safety glass, air bags, etc...

It does make you wonder though....
Did these films really scare you into driving safer? Wonder what the statistics said regarding those that grew up with these films (shown in school) vs. those who never saw them.
