I've been in this place a few times. It has been there for many years. Last night, it burned down. What a shame.

That's quite a loss. I remember when it started with only bicycles. Looked like hundreds of them at the time.

Those are two different fires. The Yarnell Hill fire is a very sad tragedy. The loss of life has been devastating to a small, close knit community.
In addition, many homes have been lost. There are now 400 firefighters working the fire which is still 0% contained.

The junkyard fire resulted in the loss of a few homes and some old motorcycles.

Both are about 75 miles from Phoenix, but Yarnell is to the northwest while Rye is northeast.

that sucks, both fires but crap does that happen all the time, if so I'm glad I live in Maine where all I got to deal with is snow
part of the year, granted it is 3/4s of the year but what the hell.

Before the Black Canyon freeway (I-17) was built, the road through Yarnell was the main link between Phoenix and Prescott/Flagstaff. Last time I drove between Yarnell and Prescott most of the pine trees were dead, killed by the bark beetle. That old, dead wood must be good fuel for the fire.

Remember the Dude fire in 1990? Until Sunday the Dude Fire was among the most tragic days in U.S. Forest Service history.
A six person inmate fire crew was killed by that blaze.

Something similar must have happened in the recent tragedy to kill that many firefighters all at once.
