Check out these prices. Don't print this because it will hurt. I received this in an e-mail so I can't verify any of the quoted prices.
The price of Gas versus Printer Ink All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....
You will be really shocked by the last one! (At least, I was...)
Compared with Gasoline...... Think a gallon of gas is expensive? This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon
And this is the REAL KICKER... Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)
Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?
So they have you hooked for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at............... (you won't believe it....but it is true........) $5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)
So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!

If you can process it for cheaper than do it. BTW a gallon of black ink costs around 40 bucks. I go through about a gallon a week at work for the videojet system. Might as well play into it. Ohhhhh, those greedy cooperation's! damn them!!!

Some guy at a car show got pizzed at me when I saw him putting a case of bottled water in his trunk. I told him jokingly that his water cost more than gasoline. I thought he was going to fight about it.
Ive found a good source online for my Canon ink. I get 75 cartridges with no exhange for $55. I do know people that buy a new printer when the ink runs out. I know cartidges at the store for my $29 HP printer cost $35 (blk) and $70 (tricolor). I just buy bulk black ink now and only use it to print text like checks. I just use a hypo needle to refill the original cartridge, stick scotch tape over the hole.
Problem is most don't use Gallons of Milk etc in a 1 hours or a days. Using 10+ gallons of gas/diesel in a day is easy, especially SUV, Light Truck, etc. Driving a Fiero from Newark, DE to Binghamton, NY takes ~10 gallons...
Evian water... the buyers don't even know the source... Many brands are "city" water run thru RO filters, maybe adding a few minerals, then bottled in PET or HDPE. Most "Spring" water use same process to meet FDA etc Reg's because many springs/wells have contamination problems.

Problem is when you buy a new printer it doesn't come with FULL ink catridges. They are half full at best usually less. Thats why they never last long.

Dumb question? If you guys are doing a lot of printing esp for generic biz, why not get a laser printer? Ex did regular mailings for a volunteer group along with other things. Picked up last years 2010 samsung laser the "half" toner cartridge lasted 8 months, replacement was $75 and good for at least another year.

Not a dumb question at all... I have to use inkjet for my brother so I can do 11x17 prints for work. The package says I can get 1600 prints from each cartridge.. which is a total lie. I usually get about 100 before having to replace each color... but i cannot afford an 11x17 capable laser printer.. I will just have to bite the bullet on that until the prices come down and pay more for the ink. I think part of the scam is the ink dries up if you do not use all the prints at once, and most people do not print in the kind of volume to squeeze that many prints out of a cartridge all at once.
Now, in regards to how much bottles of Evian cost per gallon... Look at the word Evian backwards, and thats what you are if you think drinking that stuff is a good idea.

Page Count on toner/ink is 5-15% coverage per page. See whatever spec sheet. BW laser is cheap mainly because most prints are mostly text but Color laser on full page picture/image can eat toner too. You need "Business Class" printers that give more toner/ink for about same price. Bigger 15 and 78 HP inks for Business Class printers cost about same as small 20 and 49 inks for Consumer Class printers.

Years ago I purchased a lexmark optra e312 printer on Ebay. It came with a toner cartridge in it and lasted almost 2 years. During that time I was looking for another cartridge and found one at a Comp USA that was closing and cost was $10.00. This is black & white only but I get 6000 + prints from a new cartridge. From than on I gave up ink cartridges but I don't need color either in our business invoices.

My printers are all used mostly for printing photos. I might print 200 8x10s from one shoot. Inkjet works out just fine for me for what im spending on ink. The glossy photo paper is my biggest expense.
