I've been asking that question for years. But I gave up trying to figure it out.

I for one am glad hes gone.. He was an arrogant SOB who got what was coming to him, Just a shame it could not have come sooner. He had a smart mouth and I had the displeasure to argue with him over the phone one time and I felt like I was talking to a parrot. good riddance
That's no crime, and there are plenty of the same here to fill the void he left.
Its the internet, he took it way to serious and liked to get personal. First one to say take it to PM and last one to do so. Couldn't let a barb go by without a comment. Even I know when its better to walk away.
Not saying he didn't have his times but he had a lot of baggage he liked bring it out.

True, but there is no shortage of that, either.
Lots here take it way to serious and just LOVE to get personal. Although I think it is more common that they cannot let a comment go by without a barb.

Are you inferring he was banned by Cliff and not by members thru the rating system?
Considering the thread was locked, I'd say that would be a pretty safe assumption. The thread didn't lock itself.

495. He had gone up to 498 when all the crap of Nicks banning was being spewed, but apparantly a few either changed a hasty neg to nuetral or a few who had him as a pos changed it to nuetral.

THATS the whole, point, Jake...it IS the Internet, it IS just fun...sometimes ya get as a person to do great things for real persons ya meet over the screen, and they get to do great things for you....thats how friendships are built....
Ya know, in about 2005 I posted an ad on the interwebs looking for a Fiero....and ended up meeting this Celica Driver <ewwwww :-) > named Eclipse...wierd how life works, sometimes good, sometimes bad....but it is just the internet....it was never meant to be a social tool, it was a research tool to hook professionals together...it just kinda morphed into something it never was started as....

and i'm wondering which of us posting in this thread is WD/stimpy under a pre-positioned id. sort of like "the thing", where they all sit in a circle, looking suspiciously at each other, waiting for the teeth and claws to pop out. whatever you do, don't fall asleep. (not that he's anywhere near that dangerous, just a metaphor)

He has already joined Nick’s forum and as I had told him he was welcomed with open arms.
Let’s see how long before he goes off again. He joined as himself and we are debating if he also joined as Cliff Pennock. If it was Cliff forgive us for thinking it wasn’t you.

He was pathologically anti authoritarian. He did not take kindly to many, but at least he had reason beyond "we had different politics" which is something I am SURE contributes to some people with ratings around here. He was blunt, and quite often fired a shot across the bow and dared you to try and interact with him, of which his second exchange would always be more willing if he saw you were.
In short, I liked him.
And I liked a lot of people he fought with. I was not going to choose sides between him and Nick, as I thought they were both being ridiculous dicks about it.
The place may be quieter around here, especially combined with the election being finally over, but not better. I do not exhult the removal of WD88, particularly since it strongly appeared his account had been hacked in previously mentioned thread. If not, so be it. I know at least my rating was holding him here longer, I am not afraid to say.
I have to interject here. Rick you think you are good at everything. You think when/if you have something it all of a sudden makes it better or great. You aren't the "youngest" CDL driver on this forum, granted you are younger than me, but you didn't get yours at a younger age. You live with your "parents". When you, presumably used their money, to go to CDL school, you couldn't work the job and had to quit. I find it far fetched that it was too troubling on your family. I think it was too much from you.
My assessment of you. You aren't good at anything. You are beyond stupid. Your English is poor, at best. You live and feed off of your grandmother. I think the same for your father. Your $20,000 car is a POS. The fact that you are going to pay "stupid tax" on the new car doesn't upset me. I personally am tired of your post and your delusional ideals of yourself. Go make make some money. Stop living off someone. Stop living with people who pay your bills. Then come and speak to the rest of us like a man. I saw how you took Kris's "wood" comment. I can't speak for his trailer driving, but as I recall, it isn't the driving and dropping that presents an issues, backing on the other hand...
Regarding the banning. It was clearly done by Cliff. Otherwise he would have went "blinky".
The Nick and Jeff deal. Nick was banned for directly disobeying Cliff.
The Steve/Melanie and Jeff, not going to address, I get both sides and understand how much they love Amanda.
Regarding Jeff's behavior. He was detoxing from his medications. I'm sad to see him go. I genuinely hope he gets better.
To everyone posting whatever comment good or bad. I hope you understand that a man was hurting, regardless of whether you liked him, I hope you all want him to not suffer.

Lets See ******* (if i can call you ******* that is) For one no I do not live off my grand mom or my Dad They helped me buy my solstice.. that's it.. I pay my own insurance my own gas my own repairs etc. 2, They did not forward a cent towards my CDL the money came from the state and I am still using my CDL to this day for a local Truck driving job. 3 I could handle it and loved the long haul job and that being said why the hell do you think I want to get back into it when my family gets back on its feet. My car may be a POS but I pay for it and enjoy it.. I'd like to see what you drive compares to me. 4 I know my spelling and typing is bad and if that's all you have on me than you must live a very sad pathetic life your self if all you do is scan my post's for mistakes..
My assessment of you.. You're a pompous outspoken loud mouth sad excuse for a soul. You have nothing better to do than sit on the forum all day arguing with people over senseless BS Because You have no friends Your family must hate you I doubt you have a wife and If you do its because of an "i don't want to be alone all my life' Marriage That is mutual between the both of you. If You have kids I'm willing to bet they think you are the worst father on the face of the earth, I hope someday Some full Out decks you in the mouth and Does exactly What I would love to do to you someday. And while your laying there Holding your jaw to your face, Think of me and what I just told you.. Alone sad sorry man who should just disappear himself off the face of the earth Now that WD has been banned I really hope you're next. I may not be proficient at a lot of things But I'm sure better than you as a person,
I don't care if WD was hurting or not.. He as well was a sad pathetic excuse of a human just like you and I can see why you would stick up for him If you like I can PM you his phone number So you can try to make a friend.

ok, i've done a little highly scientific study on the burning question of the day: is the rating bar effective? and the answer is, naturally, "that depends". yes, i actually spent time on this. i'm thinking of applying for a grant
here's how the bar appears to work assuming no moderator intervention, and you make it past the 50 rate speedban threshold.
using the pixel-count method to give an approximate ratio of the red/green rating to earn a ban, the magic ratio appears to be .7714...red to .22857... green. ok, not a very convenient number, but maybe we can push it a bit further there are 35 (or sometimes 34) pixels in a bar, so a pixel represents 2.857 percent. so the resolution of one pixel is 2.857% so that 77.14r to .22857g is 1 pixel away from either .75 or .80. three quarters or four fifths. assuming there's some rounding going on, and the coincidental "2857" i'm going to go with .8. maybe someone with a math major can confirm or deny this. ha, not so "scientific" after all. nevertheless, i've concluded to use 80% red, 20% green.
so let's take a purely hypothetical example. let's say we have a hypothetical user, with a hypothetical 497 ratings, of which 340 are hypothetically red and 156 are hypothetically green. that's 68.57percent red. the other user, we'll call him "rounding error". see, isn't this scientific?
so with 497 ratings, how many reds would it take to ban mr. hypothetical? (now there's a handle!) assuming no new raters, we need 397 reds and 99.4 greens. that means that 56.6 of the greens have to defect to the red side, all else being equal. say 57. hypothetically.
so how likely are 57 greens to decide that "mr. hypothetical" is suddenly not their favorite person? but wait, it's harder than that. not favorite isn't good enough. the defectors can pause at neutral, so while that's one less green, it's not one more red. so it takes more of them to do the job. i'm sure there is some numerical value we could assign here. i'm waiting for the grant to come through before i invest the time. if you want in on the grant, now's the time to speak up!
so yes, it's very difficult to ban someone except by sysop fiat after they get a couple of hundred rates. is the system performing as intended? i have to assume so. the "Coder" could have just as easily set it at 50%, 66.6%, 75%, but he chose 80%, and deals with the consequences. i believe, based on the evidence i've presented here, that the "Coder"'s intent was to build a system tolerant of diversity of opinion, and applaud him for that, even if i sometimes don't like the result.
anyone want to check my math?

I guess since I've spoke out against you, maybe I do owe you some information about me. I drive an older vehicle. 2005 F250 4x4, turbo diesel, before that I had a 2006 non 4x4, It was stolen, that is what I bought in it's place. Prior (during) my ownership of the previous truck, I owned an 88 Formula with an LQ1. I also owned a 2003 (I think Monte Carlo). Bought and paid with my own scratch. Oh, and a 2000 Kawasaki Concours. I am not going to mention how I paid my own insurance and repairs, well because that happens to be a part of my adult life. I also, before the newer diesels, drove a 97 F150. In fairness, since I''ve been driving the trucks, I have paid $.01 (saving the tax form at the end of the year, which I'm bonused on) including fuel, insurance or maintenance. I could get into a pissing contest regarding finances, but I am think Brad (who asked me to tone it down with Roger) might provide you a photo.
You are correct. I am not married. I have no children. If you'd like to attack me for either you should have the facts/ I was engaged to a woman, who couldn't have children. I was with another woman, who I didn't want children with. I am sure Darlene (Fiero girl's mom) will vouch on both accounts. As much as it may contradict your statements, I do in fact have a few friends, I don't mean to, wish some of them would go away. The soul comment. Fair enough. I don't need to go to heaven to be a good person, I do it on my own accord, when I am not smashing on people like you.
I can't really speak on the physical violence, as I don't like any altercations. If punching me would make you feel better, so be it, as a number of members will attest, you should SERIOUSLY pick who you strike.
I guess I'm done "defending" myself here. I wish well in your life Rick. Even if you are only a legend in your own mind.
Not suffer, just a quick death if I took the "blow your brains out" comment right...
I don't know if that was a quote from the trolling post he copied and pasted. I can't honestly believe anyone I've ever met on this forum wants another member to die.

Statistically speaking, Jefferey was unlikely to be banned.

That's what I'm saying. I can't believe Steve would actually want someone to kill themselves either. As it stands, I don't know the extent to their interactions, I just don't know what kind of words on the internet would ever make me want another human being to kill themselves.

I guess I will put this out there. I saw the thread in question develop and become increasingly personal. I knew that there was a lot of prior drama between many of those involved.
I sent Cliff a PM making him aware of the thread asking him for help. He did not respond to me, nor did I send him any further messages.

well, man...it IS cliff's house, it IS his place, he ownes it and is free to do as he chooses, and he gives us a LOT of respect, a LOT of freedom to discuss things and fight out our little tantrams...Cliff is a bigger man than me, I would have shut down T/OT over the fighting here long ago, and just not put up with it...He is the fairest man I know...
Cliff---if ya ever want to move to Canada and become a Provincial court judge.....I'll sign for ya.

I have to confess, I even said as much a while back. Even if not permanently, I would have locked it down for a couple of months anyway just to give people a chance to back up and take a breath.
Having said that, I had no *real* problem with Jeff lately. I really didn't like him for a long time, but somewhere along the way we actually had a few very civil discussions in PM. Without going in to details what I realized about him is that he was taking things way too seriously. Not only that, but it seemed that if he could manage to interpret someone's benign comment into some kind of an attack on himself he would respond in an exceedingly aggressive manner instead of seeking clarification. What's more, he not only responded that way if the comment originated from one of his many antagonizers. He would lash out even if it came from someone (such as myself) who didn't pick on him or try to antagonize him, and even (as I stated earlier) seemed to have a pretty civil relationship with him. A few months back he took a comment I made *WAY* out of context and responded in his typically hostile manner. After that I just mostly avoided him. (Too bad more people around here can't figure out how to do that...) Short of a long analysis of his behavior over the last year or so I'm just going to say he must really have some stuff going on, because he just became way over-sensitive. And not just in a way that compelled him to lash out, but it seemed he would lash out with far more aggressiveness than was warranted. Whatever it is, I hope he gets it worked out.
