American Atheists and Adams Outdoor Advertising are reportedly removing two Charlotte billboards blasting Christianity and Mormonism following an outpouring of complaints and threats.
The Bradenton Herald report that the billboards, which targeted the faiths of President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, went up two weeks ago and were intended to be displayed for the duration of the national conventions.
Amanda Knief, managing director of American Atheists, said a report from Fox News on Wednesday about the billboards led to a national outpouring of "vitriol, threats and hate speech against our staff, volunteers and Adams Outdoor Advertising."
If Adams Outdoor Advertising had not been involved, American Atheists would have kept the billboards in place, Knief said.
"It was a mutual decision between us and Adams Advertising for the safety and interests of both organizations that the billboards come down," Knief said.

(The following is a JOKE, I say a JOKE )
I don't see anything on there attacking Obama's religion of Islam.
I could say the same thing about some church, and christian billboards signs around my town.. Some of them are quite unbelievable in what they say.. Hate to break it to ya, but Christians hold no moral high ground over anyone, and can be just as hateful as anyone else. And if you read your bible(s) which im sure you have, in some of the "stories" your buddy God could be quite sadistic, mass murder, wars, even apparently wiping out nearly all human life, except his "followers" of course, just because they don't believe in him, or God just didnt like the way they lived their lives (noahs ark fairy tale).. If thats not sadistic i don't know what is..

You must have a different dictionary than I do: "the gaining of pleasure or sexual gratification from the infliction of pain and mental suffering on another person [C19: from French, named after the Marquis de Sade ]"
There is not an instance in the Bible in which God derives any pleasure from the death of His creations. There is regret, and I would say tremendous mercy in that He hasn't actually destroyed the world millions of times over.
I also don't deny the evils done in His name. I would submit that those who truly follow Him would eschew such methods, and yet we are far from holy, as well. Many people who call Him by name have fallen in the snare of the world. Maybe most of us have. It is for me to seek His forgiveness if I have done evil to you, and even before that, seek forgiveness from you. Yet, once again, He is merciful to forgive us when we don't deserve it.
This probably doesn't make sense to you, but it is the way it is. Where you see a cruel deity causing death and destruction on the face of the earth by natural and cultural means, I see a judge who has given people - in some instances, all people, in other instances a group or nation of people - quite fair chance to turn from their actions before having to suffer the consequences. Even His Chosen People, once a great nation, were split into two kingdoms, one decimated by the Babylonians and the other taken captive by the Persians. The restored kingdom was, even then, a shadow of its former self before becoming a Roman province. I can easily draw parallels to modern society, and don't think that we have much time left.

After seeing that billboard, you expect them to react...HOW?
To be fair, the mentality that caused that, and the crusades of earlier day is pretty much a microscopic component now.
It is, but getting angry over a couple of billboard displays to a point that they decided to take them down due to safety and security purposes tells me not much has changed with Christian followers from those times till now.

Not saying its 'right', as everyone should be able to say their thing without being attacked, but taking down a billboard is far cry from hangings and burnings. Things HAVE improved. ( and all the friends of mine who are religious would have left the sign up , and just ignored it )

I guess you never heard of the Heretic Trials or the Salem Witch Trials just for starters.
I can assume that people who are religious are just ignorant about history and facts.
I knew this would come up. Which is why I left my comment open-ended like I did.
Now... quote something that happened during this century. Or even during the previous century. The Westboro "Baptist Church" doesn't count. They're the lunatic fringe, and do not represent real Christians.

Just be happy we have a secular government with secular laws. That is what keeps the religious madness at bay for the most part.
