Sitting here watching a movie and thought about this. When you have a 3rd person and they sit in the back seat all by themselves what is the proper or best seat to sit in?
Should you sit behind the driver?
Or should you sit behind the passenger?

I think the passenger side because then the passenger can move his seat forward to give you more room. But if you sit behind the driver this is not as easy to do and can cramp the driver.

Just took my medication so i’m just rambling.

Steve

Behind the passenger.

If it's a little kid the driver can more easily look back to check on them. (eyes on the road Grandpa!)

If it's a little kid it minimizes seat kicking and other distractions aimed at the driver.

If it's someone older the driver doesn't need to worry about legroom as you stated, and it's easier to converse.

I do not know the "proper" means by which a third passenger is supposed to sit.

However, I feel the best "safety" feature in the car is the driver. Thus, if the driver has to be moved to a point where they are no longer in a proper seating position that allows them to properly manipulate the vehicle's controls, and there is available seating behind the passenger, then the individual sitting in the rear seat should sit behind the passenger. If for whatever reason capacity of the vehicle has to increase to four (or more) individuals, then the smallest individual should sit behind the driver.

Simply pondering such a question could destroy the very fabric that binds us together as a cohesive group!

There is only one possible answer:

Fieros do not have back seats!!!!!

Depends on how little of a kid. If a infant, I prefered them behind me when I was driving so my wife would have easier access to them. Then she could reach back to pat them, hold the bottle for them, cover them or plug in the pacifier without her having to remove her seatbelt or me trying to do it while driving. Even when my son who is 6 goes with us, I prefer him behind me, because again, I'm driving, my job is to drive, since she is the passenger she can tend to our child.

Behind the driver. I don't want my vision obstructed and I don't think the driver should be checking on a passenger even if it's a kid. Let the front seat passenger do that.

Make 'em walk, they need the exorcise...

I remember a time when a passenger car held passengers comfortably. My '68 Malibu held 5 people very nicely.
When the rear seats don't have leg room, why bother putting in rear seats?
