I want to stream movies to my tv and surf the web from my TV, using my computer, Do those $80 blue ray players with the built in WIFI at wal mart support this? or what is the built in wifi? is it something you have to pay monthly? or is it real WIFI, which means i can display whats on my computer screen to the tv from another room?

Which one would be the best to buy?

Mine doesn't. It lets you stream from select online services like Amazon and netflix, and get updates.

If you want to stream from your tv, and don't want to build something, get one of those cheap android tv boxes.

what kinda laptop do u have? most core i5 or newer systems have widi (wireless display) some tv's support this, if yours doesnt (unlikely if you were looking at wifi dvd players) youll just need a reciever.
the onlything the wifi dvd players could play from your pc would be a file on a shared folder.

Most flat panels have had a Dsub15 connection, which is what your monitor uses. Plug it right in and choose input "PC" and you should be good to go.

If you have an old tube TV, you'll need a scan converter so that the image looks right. Computer monitors scan progressive lines, TVs scan alternate lines.

if you have an s video connector or an hdtv connector to the computer, you can connect the computer to the TV.

Im not so sure about the std. computer video connector --but some TVs have that too. My 120" HDTV has it.

I've had my pc run on my 52" LCD for years now. I use a wireless keyboard, mouse and Xbox controler for games. Works great. Kids have an Xbox and stream movies and music from my pc to there tv. All i did was use a dvi to hdmi converter and ran a digital audio cable to a reciver. Just adjust the resolution to your likening.

I have a tiny RCA streaming media player box on my TV. It gets my WiFi signal and connects the tv to Hulu + ($8 @ month), NetFlix, VUDU (pay per view), YouTube, Pandora. It was $50. Signing up for Hulu, I get computer and smart phone access to same programs for free on them too.

I do believe the WiFi DVD players do the same thing as the media player.

No, Blu-Rays will not connect your computer to the TV. Wi-fi means that the Blu-ray will connect to your network and stream "something". "something" can be netflix, hulu, etc. If you want to connect your computer, you will need to use the s-video, RGB or HDMI connections from the laptop to the TV. There maybe wireless connections available to the TV, but that would depend on the TV and I haven't seen any that do that, but they probably exist.

With s-video and rgb, you will need to connect the audio separately.

I guess I misunderstood what you were asking. I connect my computer to my tv with an HDMI cable. I also have a device I got from X10.com that plugs into a tv, vcr,dvd or cmptr and transmits a signal to a reciever on any tv anywhere in the house. The kit includes a trans and reciever, and you can get extra recievers. I use it to play my cable box out to the garage. No signal degradation either even right next to my air compressor. Mine even included a universal remote control for everything.

Yup. That is how mine works. Tho it also supports a usb drive, and use that to play movies.

But for under 100 one can get one of those little streamer boxes. ( something like this http://www.chinavasion.com/...N_SD_Android_4.0_ICS )
