Avoid shooting it anywhere with anything unless you want that area to stink.
I learned at an early age that skunks will release if they are hit with even a BB, shooting em with a paintball gun, or pellet gun will just set em off.
No need to kill it, just get a live trap, and cover it up when you catch it, then relocate to another area. My wife's Grandfather used to pick skunks up and just carry them somewhere else. I hear that as long as you hold their tail down that they won't spray.

I know it is not you and i know it was sarcastic but when it comes to guns and killing, anything, well you are you.
Ummm... I wouldn't say I was trying to be "sarcastic" with that image. I was just trying to be funny!
I dunno, maybe a lot those negative ratings I have are from people who just don't understand my sense of humor. Seriously, I seldom try to "hurt" people here.
Anyway, I didn't want this thread to become about me. It's supposed to be about skunks. Hey, there is a difference!

So at about 7 PM while I was over at the carport cleaning some car part, I could hear a quiet rustling sound back by the Fiero I've been working on. I look over (about 12 feet away) and there's the skunk standing by the open passenger door of the car! I did NOT want the skunk in the Fiero, so I slowly (very slowly) walked towards the skunk and asked it gently to move along. It obliged, and tottled over to the back fence where it did the limbo and went under it. It then proceeded to run down the lane.
I'm glad that this skunk is so timid (and not trigger happy), but yes, I'll be looking into getting some moth balls to hopefully prevent any potential future mishaps.

Most of them (in my experience anyway) are like cats. They will run away from you if at all possible, and only spray as a last resort.
Do you have some dog or cat food around that would make it want to hang around?

Reminds me of the graffiti along the bottom of a public toilet door: "Beware of Limbo dancers!!" Nah...not very helpful...but I thought it might lighten the mood a Little Nick

No, but you bring up a good point, Brad. There is a sort of hidden from view spot in the yard/garden where I dump vegetable waste and crushed egg shells. Hmmm... might be a good idea to start using a proper compost box.
