You have not faced death or felt relieved at every second on the road that you were still alive until you have driven in Saudi Arabia.
I dunno--Thailand was pretty bad. Last thing I wanted was to die at the same time and in the same wreck and vehicle 200 chickens and a couple dozen pigs did....

So from the looks of it, the point is not to drift around a corner, it's to be going in a straight line, and then lock up the rears to get a skid going?
umm..... don't get it...
Well, I guess we've done that around here, but it's in winter, in a parking lot, and it's to help you learn how to get out of a skid and avoid an accident.

.
It's kids, tempting death. Sometimes, death takes them up on it.
I would like to say it's too much money, a life to easy and expensive cars too easily attained, that has them pushing the limits, but I wonder if kids of the past did the same thing with horses? Did kids used to jump their horses over canyons and one-up eachother just to show off?
Growing up, I never REALLY got crazy with my cars becouse it was all I had and if I wrecked it, I was S.O.L. No one was going to replace it, including me.

And it's not just the idiots in the cars, it's also the spectators on the side of the road. It's like they're purposely daring the cars to weave in their direction. Madness, absolute madness.
Watching this it's easy to see why so many young men have been keen to march off to war over the centuries.

It's a take on Japanese choku dori = straight drift. It's when you simply drift back and forth across the road on a straight stretch of road. It's actually done in Japan a lot. The whole drifting in a corner thing is more predominate.

If there were only a way to melt that sand into a nice BIG, flat, solid slab of glass...............
lol I see what you did there.
I was actually just having a discussion with a co-worker today about his experience in kuwait. He was telling me that the driving there is terrible and there would be a horrible crash on a regular basis. He also mentioned that the street cleaners would constantly be struck by vehicles and killed. They were paid more depending on how close they worked to the fast lane of the roads.
Another thing he brought up which I thought was crazy was that they were told never to help anyone that has been in a car accident. Something along the lines of if you try to help and then the person ends up dying, they blame it on you. Then you owe the victim's family retribution or something for the rest of your life. Not sure if I understood the whole thing correctly, but the bottom line is, they leave people to die. Nice.

Kuwait has different customs, and does not subscribe to the "good Samaritan" rule (law in some nations): That someone who assists to their best of abilities is not responsible if their "cared for" person dies while in their care.
Their rule seems to be "If that person dies in your care you then become responsible for his dependents (families) care." Since that "breadwinner" is no longer able due to your apparent negligence, you then become responsible to care (financially) for that family/wife/livestock of that person who you cared for.
If you hit an farm animal in some countries, such as a pig, or a sheep sheep voice: daddy, no lol or a cow, you become responsible to pay for that animal, and all the offspring of that animal that cannot be born/sold used since you hit it. (LOL)

Didn't really want to watch it, and didn't. But story reminds me of other stupid saftey blunders, the baja, and thru the woods dirt races thru the country side where the spectators are standing at the side of the road. Those cars get airborne at fast speeds, its just stupid to stand so close.

Must be a real bugger to be a EMT or doctor there then...unless they have some other set of 'rules' cover their back sides...
That has to be one of the most retarded things I've ever seen . Drifting through oncoming traffic (traffic doesn't even flinch, gives you an idea for how common this is in Saudi Arabia), they lose control in the sand and nearly wipe out an entire crowd of people (people who don't even have sense to run away?). And it looks like they weren't even wearing seatbelts? I can't say I feel that bad for them.

It's a socio-economic thing. Most of these kids come from extremely wealthy parents, and they rarely (if ever) have to take responsibility for their actions. They basically are raised in such a way as to believe that they are invincible... so the idea of wearing a seat-belt is kind of silly to them. Anyway, because of this type of personality and lack of responsibility, they do this kind of drifting stuff in the streets ALL the time, and just like most countries like this, it's VERY easy to bribe the police officer when / if you actually get pulled over. I remember the last time I was in Thailand, the driver of the cab I was in hit a Tuk-Tuk, and he simply just gave the officer like 100 Baht and we drove off.
Back in the mid to late 90s when the Chevy Caprice was cancelled, the board of directors got HELL from several saudi princes and high-end customers in Bahrain, Dubai, UAE, etc. Many of the directors were forced to sit on the phone and be berated for hours and hours or risk losing the market all together (they used to HATE front wheel drive cars).
Anyway, most of them can't learn responsibility from their parents, because their parents generation have only recently become wealthy through the 80s when most of the Arab nations began to see a bit more stability.
It's like if you give a million dollars to a poor person on the street... what kind of responsibility do you think he'll have? Imagine the kind of responsibility he would have if that money never ran out. Now think about what kind of kids they would produce and what kind of responsibility those children would have... that kind of answers your question. That's why many of the kings and princes and oil barons out there send their kids to ultra-exclusive US and European preperatory schools to try to instill some kind of responsibility in them.
