So do you use the same procedure if the project is being done while on a large treadmill?

[EDIT] Notice that the importance of my question rated it being placed at the top of a new page.

[EDIT 2] I'm willing to wager that Marvin's response, no matter how well thought out it is ('cause they're always well thought out), will not rate it being placed at the top of a new page.

" If a picture paints a thousand words...then a video will tell the whole story"

55 seconds...can you beat that, without a compass, ruler or set square?

OTOH, Patrick, you could simply have surveyed response times for pizza threads so that you could accurately gauge when your comment would lead page 2. That would make you a brilliant, self-aggrandizing schemer with too much free time.

Or... I just lead a charmed life and it was simply blind luck that resulted in my very erudite post being at the top of this page.

So glad you realised your error, and admitted it...a FIRST for a white collar guy methinks, ESPECIALLY when 'arguing ' with somebody who is both qualified white collar architect,, draughtsman, graphic artist... and ...wait for it...a BLUE collar WORKER . Do you see any rulers, right angle implements, slide rules, computers or other 'high-tech' equipment in my video?
Nah...didn't think so.

With a compass, set it to the radius of the circle. At 2 points on the outer diameter of the circle approximately 90o apart, place the compas point there and draw a arc across the inside of the circle from each point. Where they cross will be the exact center of the circle.

Q.E.D. I bow before your random superiority.

FWIW, I agree that the compass and straight edge constructions are both the most direct and most accurate way to accomplish the task. You don't even have to know the diameter of the circle for them to work. The method using a right triangle (or any suitable object with a precise 90-degree angle) is pretty neat, too, and it's even faster ... but it does depend upon the accuracy of the 90 degree angle, which the compass method does not.

I've been doing it this way with this same little sliding gadget on my combination sq for about 40 years....it's never failed me, and the graduations are right there on the index.
