Just like the title says, I'm wondering if its possible to capture audio (say from a webpage or movie/video game) without using a mic and going digital-->analog-->digital.

Any good freeware out there for this or is it not even possible?

How? I thought audacity had to record from a sound card input. I'll have to look into it more I guess.

Google "audacity record streaming audio"
or "audacity record what you hear"

B-kawwww!

It's not so hard...
Most sites or video tutorials will tell you to get LAME encoder, but that's more for mp3 output (so you can save it as an mp3 instead of a .wav)

I think you basically set Audacity to use your sound card's output as the input source...

I already have Audacity and LAME. Problem is with audacity I'm not seeing any input devices listed. Through the control panel (windows 7) I can't seem to find any disabled/unused devices either except for the "line in" mic devices. Maybe my sound card just won't support this....?

If you can't get it figured out, just use a patch cable between the 3.5mm plugs.

My kid has Audacity on his laptop (running Win 7) and uses a USB mike with it. I don't think he has anything in it but the stock sound card.

check out this tutorial....it just may answer your question.

I have RCA Easy Rip. It will record audio from anything that plays on your computer sound card.
