I really like this song. I've heard it on the local Alternative Rock station. I can't really categorize it...anything else in the genre?
Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done And I don't wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough And you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (Now you're just somebody that I used to know)
And now for something completely different...

The first time I heard a piece of this song on the radio, I thought it was perhaps Peter Gabriel or Sting doing the male vocals. I googled the few lyrics I could remember and eventually found it on YouTube.
Here's my favorite version of the song. Same vocalists, Gotye and Kimbra, but this particular version is done in a studio. I love watching Kimbra's hands while she sings. She really gets into the song!

As none of the videos show up for me, I can't tell if this is the same group or not. Cliff posted this a little while ago, a group of people singing the same song, but all of them playing one guitar. Give it a look....

That's the same as the second video that AntiKev posted, but it's a cover version of the song originally sung by Gotye and Kimbra that AntiKev first posted (and then I posted a studio version of the same song also sung by Gotye and Kimbra).
I have to admit that the four guys and a girl on the same guitar is entertaining, but musically not as good as Gotye and Kimbra.

I heard the Gotye and Kimbra version on XM radio the other night...first time I'd heard it other than the second video which Cliff originally posted. I will agree that it's not as polished as the original song, but I actually liked it better. Probably because it was the first version I'd heard.

That's a really cool version. I'm digging this song. And to think...I totally ignored its existence when my ex posted it on her Facebook wall two months ago (right after we broke up) .

That title reminds me of an old country song called “Just Someone I Used to Know” sung by many as a duet but it was originally a big song for George Jones titled “Just a Girl I Used to Know” written by Jack Clement:

I believe Gotye is categorized as pop music actually. Here they only play it on the alternative rock station as well but when you look through his other videos they are more pop than anything. I heard some okay music of his but this is by far the best song and also one of my favorites right now. Kimbra is so hot in the music video and not only because shes naked

I looked up other music videos by both Gotye and Kimbra. I found nothing I liked by either one of them, but this particular song is... pure magic!

I heard the last half of this song on the radio just a couple of days ago. Interesting "sound" to this song, but I really like where it's going at the 4:00 mark. Good stuff.

I guess I've been out of touch with a lot of recent music because I had never heard of Muse until a couple days ago. After listening to the song of their's posted above, I clicked on another one of their songs, Resistance. I immediately knew who they reminded me of... Ultravox from the '70s-'80s. I'd be so surprised if Midge Ure hasn't had some kind of connection to these guys, even if just "spiritually".

Yes, yes you have! I remember listening to them in the early millennium years. I haven't heard one of their songs in a long time though, so this was a treat for sure!

That's about how a lot of us feel about your opinions.
My opinion about a song is a personal affront to you? That says more about you than it does about me. Even if it was true, so? I do not need the approval of strangers on the internet to get through the day.
All that being said..I doubt that "a lot" of members here consider you their spokesperson. So bite me.

You step into a thread about a song that many of us have expressed that we just love and you purposely troll for a response.
You got a response, so go "bite" yourself.
No, I don't speak for anyone else here, but I do know what many PFF members think of you.
Your dad is a well respected member of this forum. You, on the other hand... aren't.

Completely different then "Somebody that I Used to Know" but equally as awesome:
------------------ Read my Earthship thread in Totally O/T si vis pacem, para bellum
"The said constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." - Samuel Adams
What part of "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" is so hard to understand?!

Its overplayed here too, on pop stations. But yeah, everyone has different tastes.
The one thing I thought was kind of cool about the song is the singer sounds a bit like the singer from The Samples.
The singers sound like they have talent..I am not denying that. It's the song I don't like. Perhaps if I heard something else from them, I would like it.
