WD, while we may have our differences, I do not wish anything but the best for Rascal. I do believe you to be an animal lover, like me, and I know that your pets are in great hands.
Thanks, we do have VPI on rascal and phoebe, phoebe has full coverage, rascal has less because of his age. We always take our pets to the vet, but we are thinking about dropping the coverage. We have enough cash to cover emergencies.
My vet tried to sell it to me with my new puppy last week. I tend to feel its more of a scam than anything else. Its better just to put the monthly premiums in a jar.
I know with my cats, id have lost money. Tho one cost us a grand last year due to eating a nut and getting it lodged inside her ( stupid cat... stupid cat ) the rest never have to go in. I don't let them outside unless they are in the kennel ..
That is alarming. He does have all his shots and recent blood panel, so does Phoebe. You can only protect so much.
If he has had all his shots, then more than likely it is not distemper, tho it's my understanding that inocculated animals can still get it to some degree, with the shot protecting them from a full blown infection. When the 2 strays showed up here, I locked my own dog up in the shop, for several days/nights and afterwards burned all the bedding the 2 sick dogs slept on, then sprayed bleach water everywhere--overkill I suppose. Didn't mean to alarm ya, and it's good to hear he's better.

I don't agree...or better said. my experience has proven differently. About three years ago, Marley was struck by a car on Lake Shore Drive and immediately went into shock, suffered a number of internal injuries and a fractured leg. I happened to let go of his leash momentarily and he just took off for no apparent reason. Anyway, in total the vet bills were in excess of $3500 just for his immediate care. Had I not had the insurance, that expense would've been totally out-of-pocket. As it is, however, the policy covered a bit more than 95% of it. I was considering getting rid of it as well but that one event completely changed my mind about that.

There is not a lot of difference in buying insurance and paying for innoculations--they are both a hedge against unforseen future calamities. I do not have pet health insurance, but there have been times, I've wished I did. Sometimes, I think vet rates are higher than people doctor rates. I spent a bundle out-of-pocket getting ol Spot sewed back together several times, then the ungratefull wretch went and r-u-n-n-o-f-t. I sure miss him too.

That is why i dont let my animals out unsupervised and unsecured.
I "lost" a cat once, and a dog, from them being loose out in the country. Never again.

Well, with Rascal at least, he is too old to get the advanced coverage, they cover only basic vet visits, no surgeries or anesthetic procedures. I have to take him to the vet every other month to break even. I will probably keep coverage on little Pheobe.

I would never put my pets in that sort of dangerous situation, so in my case its more prudent to just save the money and go in for regular checkups and not worry about catastrophic injury.
( and if it sounded like i was flaming, i really wasn't.... just that i'm more careful, see post above of why )

Too bad it doesn't cover grooming .. that is a constant expense for my little dog

So am I....but s#!t happens.
I dropped my keys, bent over to pick them up and, in the process, let go of his leash. Simple as that.
