in keeping with tradition, i resume the quadrennial search for the next presidential also-ran.
because i can't stomach the major parties' offerings, i look for someone who exhibits either; conformity with my own political inclinations, someone who doesn't have a snowflake's chance in heck of winning, who hence can't do to much damage, or at least demonstrates a zany sense of fun, because irony in the guise of a steady diet of lies is such a downer.
i therefore present the result of my first delving, disappointing as it is. these guys are either one-issue hacks, appear to live in a completely different political reality, or are way too serious. but it's a place to start. if you can suggest further possibilities, i'd appreciate it.

The field would open up a bit if being an atheist was acceptable. Lots of very qualified people can't get a second thought once that comes out. Maybe in 50 years.
But as I see it (other than the above) anyone that might be a serious contender always get pulled into one of the two top parties. Ross Perot was probably one of the few in the last 50 years that mounted a viable third-party campaign. Those that don't migrate to one the two parties often *are* one-issue candidates. This is contrasted with the two-issue candidates we have today in the GOP and Dem parties.

Where is Pat Paulsen when we need him? (Answer: He's dead.)
Presidential campaign slogan: "I've upped my standards. Now, up yours."
On immigration policy: "All the problems we face in the United States today can be traced to an unenlightened immigration policy on the part of the American Indian."
On freedom of speech: "We're allowed to say Ronald Reagan is a lousy actor, but we're not allowed to say he's a lousy governor—which is ridiculous. We know he's a good actor."
Another political thread not marked political. When it's willful, like a 2 year old disobeying his parents, is it stupidity? Or just garden-variety vandalism? I know it's not stupidity because the topic creator is obviously able to write. In fact, I've met him, and he seems like a nice guy in person, but on this forum he's a prick.
