I want to use my old 3GS as a 3G modem, is this possible? It is jailbroken of course.

I need to check for an unlock for 5.0.1 and update it if there is an unlock for the baseband it will be running.

I spent $200 for a nokia so that I could use the sim chip in my iPhone 3GS and sign it up on straight talk. It worked and I have unlimited everything for $45 a month. Now I've heard that you can buy the same phone refurbished for $59 and it will work too. I was going to use my phone for tethering my wifi iPad, but I've heard that if you use too much data they will cut you off even though you have an unlimited agreement. I'm in violation already so I don't want to raise any flags. You might be willing to risk it since you're not gaming the system, but from what I've heard smart phones are taxing the system and people are being denied their unlimited service if they over a set amount. Good luck!

My contract states unlimited use. If i were to be capped at some arbitrary limit, you can watch how fast i head to the attorney general.

I had unlimited before I changed carriers like an idiot, when my contract ended. Now, I would like to use my old iPhone as a 3G modem (hopefully i can find it @ unlimited data) since that is the only source to get reliable internet in my garage.

but i would like to know if anyone knows this will work. or should i just bite the bullet and get a 4G hotspot?

Well, it works i do it with my 3gs when im stuck somewhere without wifi and need to login to work.

If this is a garage attached to a house or something, why not just run cat 5 out there and attach a wifi access point?

Its not unfortunately. I live in an apartment complex.

http://hijinksinc.com/2010/...sim-in-an-iphone-3g/

How legit is this^^^^? not for using a smaller sim, but everything after that.

EDIT: nevermind, that is old.
