How could this "Liberal" Republican trounce his opponents so decisively?

Have they not heard of the tea party in Nevada?

It must have been that Donald Trump endorsement that did it.

From the internets:

quote

For the first time, Romney took half the votes of tea party supporters, with Mormons once again pushing his margin higher than before.

One in 4 voters Saturday was Mormon, Romney's religion, and 9 in 10 of them backed him. They provided him with more than 4 in 10 of his votes on Saturday. Each of his rivals received 1 in 10 or less of their votes from Mormons.

Romney won among all non-Mormon voters as well, though by a narrower margin, capturing around 4 in 10 of their votes. Romney won among born-again and evangelical Christians — a group he has usually struggled with — prevailed among Protestants and carried a slight majority of Catholics.

Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul each took about 1 in 4 of Saturday's non-Mormon votes.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that this will happen again.

This Red state/ Blue state map shows Nevada as 'tan' (undecided).
This one shows it blue.

Mitt Romney wins Nevada caucus....

I think that would've been called "a given" and is most likely the Republican presidential candidate. Like I said before, it's his race to lose.

The major problem for the GOP is that Newt Gingrich is writing all of the Democratic TV campaign spots in the interim.

Mormon population made up almost 30% of caucus goers. Harry Reid is a Mormon, by the way.

Sanatorium is the real problem in this race. He needs to drop out. He is worthless but the real reason this is selection process is going to drag on. If you had Mitt, Newt and Paul, I think we can see a real Primary.

Or independents for Obama are voting for Romney because they believe he cannot defeat Obama. It's a conspiracy!

You guys need a Republican who can bring in dissatisfied Dems as well as the Religious Right.

It calls for a moderate in the situation.

Look North. Stephen Harper is a moderate Conservative and did just that to the Liberals.

Now I'm a pretty hard core Conservative, and even I know that Romney is likely the only hope to hoist Obama out.

The final numbers are in.
It looks like the liberal Mormon beat the conservative polygamist by a country mile.

quote

Mitt Romney blew out his competition. The final numbers, released Monday morning, showed the extent of Romney’s dominance.
Romney took one out of every two votes. Remember when the talk was that the former Massachusetts governor couldn’t get above 25% anywhere? His rivals never drew close: Newt Gingrich finished second at 21%, Ron Paul garnered 19%, and Rick Santorum just 10%.

The GOP presidential frontrunner had long expected to do well in the state, with its strong Mormon vote and urbanized Las Vegas core. To their credit, his competitors saw the wave coming and largely stopped campaigning in the state. Even Gingrich devoted himself more to fundraising than handshaking.

The race moves on to Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, which holds nonbinding caucuses Tuesday, and Maine, which is holding a weeklong caucus that ends Saturday. A nonbinding caucus means that the presidential preferences cast by attendees is only the first step of the process and delegates could end up apportioned to another candidate despite the result.

Ron Paul did surprisingly well!
