I was watching an episode of Wheeler Dealers last night where they came over to the states and bought a Dodge Charger. I forget but it was I think either a 69 or 70 with a 383 Magnum and a 4-speed. I like the show and I think the guy Ed is pretty good with making repairs on a budget. They did a good job on the Charger and it looked real good, but they took it out to the dragstrip and the host of the show ran an 18 second quarter and Ed ran a 17 second quarter. They seemed proud and I thought, either they have a different way of clocking over there or they are bad drivers because there is no way that a Charger with a 383 Magnum and 4-speed should not run at least a 15 second quarter.
These guys aren't proffesional drag racers, that could also explain their 1/4 mile time.
Plus they just put $ and work into it trying to get top dollarre-selling. They don't want to "break" anything F'n around on a drag track. Better to be safe than broke...

Do you know what the trap speed was? That tells me more about the engine's power than the ET. Traction, bad/granny shifting and poor reaction times have a big effect on ETs but trap speeds do not change that much.

My Volkwagen camper bus turned 21 in 1/4 mile at National Trails years ago. I havent tried my 413 Coronet, which is basicly the same as a Charger. In 66/67 theyre completely identical except for the fastback roof on the charger. I put a Charger nose on mine...direct fit. The engine came out of a Chrysler New Yorker. Since it has period correct tires 225/70/14s, id expect 14s since its stock except for a very mild 'RV' cam. At the Mopar Nats, theres a lot a mild built ones doing 9s and 10s.

I may have to put my Fiero mods on the backburner in the near future because of this show. + I have wanted to get a 1968-1970 Charger ever since I got rid of my 1969 Roadrunner and this show has sparked the interest again. Now, I`m torn though because I liked the front on my Roadrunner but I like the rear of the Charger so I may go with the Coronet because the 1968-69 Coronets have a very similar front grille to the Roadrunner and with the exception of the swoop of the rear 1/4 panel of the body they have a similar appearance of the Charger. I don`t really like the grille on the 1970 Coronet as it looks too divided.
