so - when the aliens land - and want to steal all our water, we can point towards Kepler 22b, and tell them to go there instead?

but, at least now there is a general direction. something to shoot for. I agree this has basicly no impact whatsoever to this generation, other than daydreams. I would hope at least one something get launched in that direction. even if it is somethign whcih gets overtaken by the next generation of faster stuff.

It was a+b= c. ab= a times b. But I get the point.

That was my first thought when I first seen this. Want to screw up a perfectly good planet, send a ship full of humans at it!

Why are we under the assumption that aliens need water? I'm sure if they have the technology to steal and transport our water, they have the technology to re-arange molecules and create artificial water... Why not go steal a couple asteroids and rearange them to become water? I'm sure that's why we don't see many aliens. if they have the technology to get here, they have the technology to realize we are worthless.

because we are to unimaginative to actually think of anything beyond our little needs
they want our: water, women, gold, labor

and - if you actually go thru this thread - these is something often overlooked:
we mention how long this voyage would take at sublight speeds. now - this applies to "them" as well. if a ship left there, coming here, at sublight speeds - and assuming simaler life spans - the arriving aliens would not be anything like those who left their planet. in fact - they may have degraded ALOT, in both mental and physical abilities. they maybe slobbering fools who can barely work the machine their ancestors built. much like the human residents of Rome thru the Dark Ages.

I get a kick out of our lack of imaginatino too. I mean "Aliens" could be 2mm tall, could look like trees, could be able to fly through space without ships, could be our trees on earth right now. DOH! We have such limited thinking, only based on what we see on earth.

a+b=ab

a=0
b=0

Should be right.
