I KNOW, I KNOW it's "a style", that they are trying to show the stuff they wear is TOTALLY "new"... but I keep feeling like they are just telling everyone they don't know they are supposed to take the tags and stickers off after they buy them... it's like the 'pants pulled down' or 'one leg rolled up', or 'bookbag worn ON THE FRONT' (ugh). Saw one kid with the bookbag on the front, pants pulled down, AND a sticker. I almost had to stick my wallet in my mouth...
See so many every day, they just look silly, with some big brand name on their hoodie. Saw one standing next to a ROTC kid. found it interesting - they both were wearing uniforms, both hafta take care of their 'thingies' (uniform-shine the brass- hat- keep that sticker lookin' new)
it's gonna be a looong week.

It's actually more than showing off that it is new - the style is about brand identification as well.
The trend is rising because there are many fakes abound in the apparel market. This goes for most everything - clothes, shoes, bags, etc. By leaving tags and stickers on the items as they come, it shows that you have the real thing. Faux tags and logos are very easy to spot. Anyone can go and buy a faux hat of a particular brand, but the person that spends $40-$50+ dollars on a hat wants the real thing. And this is the type of brand identification trend that is now rampant.

I have an $80 fedora... It has no visible branding, just the designer logo imprinted in the leather.
It doesn't get worn often since I have to take it off when I drive. [Edit: Didn't pay retail price, in case that bothers anyone - at least, I think I didn't. Can't really remember]

Tell me about it! I think people look rediculous wearing a baseball hat with the manufacturer's stickers on it.
I was given a St Louis Cardinals league championship hat from my mother in law, which was a new era hat with a "world series" sticker on it. The sticker looked like it was there for the purpose of being commemorative, as well as showing it was a licensed product. Took it off anyway.
Guess I am too old to care if someone knows I am wearing a genuine label product or not.
Is it ironic that many of those stickers say "New Era" on them? As in a new era of morons?
But I can see backpacks on the front when in New York. I know when I traveled with a school-ish group abroad, anytime we were in a big city they had us wear our backpacks on the front to discourage pickpockets. Never seen it as a fashion statement though...
Last year I told my students if they could write me a short essay explaining why someone would leave tags on their clothing (catalyzed by stickers on hats) I would give them an automatic A on the next test.
I had no takers.

It amazes me how much what people wear bothers other people!
Personally, I don't care what you wear.
I think it just bothers me because I see it as a uniform, a uniform which displays a deep ignorance to what's 'important'. (like I know? )
Seeing someone wearing a team outfit doesn't bother me , at least they have some reason for it , they like the team, they like the player, his or her skills, etc...
but it just bothers me...wearing random sh*t on their shirt, and not having any idea what the things signify, but they are promoting it....
Heh, a co-worker chimed in - "They call it BRANDING for a reason...you BRAND cattle..."
It's not the clothing, even... it's what it REPRESENTS...
I dunno, it just 'irks' me...maybe I'm looking for someone to explain WHY it does...

Yeah, along those lines I have a bunch of White Sox 2005 World Series hats and other stuff; the stuff I wear all has the tags removed (especially the shirts and sweatshirts obviously) but since I bought doubles of everything I left the tags on on the ones that went into the "permanent collection". World Series stuff just doesn't come our way all that often!

well, my original thought of why they left the tags on was that when the new style come out or within 29 days they go return it to the store they got it at and get the newer stuff. i dunno. i always thought they were poor. at least they were always complaining about it

Kind of like the whole $500 car, $6,000 wheels thing?

I can undertsand leaving the tags on memorabelia meant as collectables and not as merchandise you wear.

Tell me about it! I am a die hard fan of the North Side team.
I have no idea, but whenever I see someone wearing a flat-billed cap with the stickers on I get the strong urge to rip it off their head, remove the sticker, bend the bill, then give it back to them.
Its stupid, paintball players do the same thing with a specific goggle. I wear the same goggles but I take them off and make fun of all the idiots who keep them on. Let them wear their stickers, how else are we going to label stupid people?

NIIIICCCCEEEE blind spots... good targets. I would encourage this tomfoolery.

WOW. They play with those stickers on, just to show that they paid money for a Thermal Lens?

Today I met a friend for coffee in a "trendy" counter-culture coffee shop, not the type of place I usually frequent. (It happened to be across the street from where my buddy was working today.) Most of the people in this coffee shop looked relatively "normal", but this one guy looked like he had put a lot of effort into his appearance. He was a young white guy with long dreadlocks that were all piled under a large red scarf (the size of a small tablecloth) on his head. It made his noggin look immense. He was also wearing pants that were seriously almost down to his knees with a white belt (to emphasize the effect, I guess). From the front, he looked like a tall guy from his "waist" up, but from his pseudo waist down he looked like a midget with little stubby legs. When he turned around, his boxer shorts were all bunched up and sticking out (along with his ass) over the top of his white belt. I couldn't believe how ridiculous this guy wanted himself to look.
I should also mention though that I didn't look close enough to see if the tags and stickers were still attached to his shorts.

Heh, /shrug. I wear shirts with all kinds of stuff on them. I have one with some boat I've never seen and a few from a ranch I've never been to. Several from a record company and it's shows that I never saw (brother-in-law worked for them and gave them to me). To me though, I really don't care what's on the shirt as those shirts are going to be worn when I'm working. Which means those shirts will get covered in dirt/oil/grease and become holey from getting snagged on stuff or weld splatter. They are being worn so I don't ruin my nice shirts. I really don't care what a "work" shirt has on it.

I wouldn't put too much stock in how people wear baseball hats.
LMAO............thats awesome.....
Younger people all look stupid with their sideways/backward baseball caps, pants down around the knees, t shirts long enough to be dresses, gold chains big enough to tow cars with....................I can go on for hours. It used to really irratate me, but now I usually just laugh out loud at them...they want the attention anyway so I oblige them. Seems like the newest fad is walking around with their phone in their hand 24/7. Ya, I laugh at that too. Best part is I do get to laugh a whole lot these days which is a good thing considering where the country is heading. Im usually too busy laughing at them to notice stickers. Is it the same people who put stickers all over their cars because they think theyre in Nascar ?
Coworker said he LIKES it when people dress that way because it's easiert to identify them.
Heh, reminded me of the days when you knew someone was nuts if they were talking to themselves... Now, half the people are just on the phone... Harder to "spot the loony"
