I have mixed feelings, I worked on one it seemed like every week until she sold it, but my neighbor down the street never had a problem one out of it.

It's an aging Escort. Fuel mileage will be ok, but otherwise it is not likely to be the epitome of reliability. I know someone who has an 03 ZX2 with 70K some miles. It is ok, but has needed some work (alternator, ball joints recently, and wheel bearings almost yearly).

If the price is right, I would say it would be ok even if it needed an occasional repair. Just don't expect it to be an 03 Civic.

Ford, serving America without taxpayer assistance. That alone is good enough for me.

As for that Escort, check the Carfax. Some people have nothing but problems, others have been trouble free. "D

They are good little cars, but most people on here are solid GM guys.

The only GM car I own is my Fiero. I prefer most Fords to their GM alternatives.

If the car has been maintained and appears to be in good shape and the price is right, I say go for it.

I am a long time owner of a trusty rusty Mexican Mazda. That's what it really is under the death egg body shape. Mine is a '98 with a '99 engine in it. I have had next to no trouble with it save for letting the valve cover leak until it flooded the spark plug wells. Not certain about the later ones but the Zetec 2.0 liter is stout little performer. Non interference engine are my three favorite words. Thirty plus miles to the gallon rain or shine. The automatics tend towards some excessive idle vibration in drive but other than that they are pretty smooth. When you knock the back seats down they can hold an amazing amount of s**t. They also seem to be completely invisible to law enforcement, a plus. So, a big thumbs up to my little buddies in Hermosillo for putting together a tidy little commuter cart. Mods to mine include clipping the air cleaner for more air flow and removing the intake muffler to give it that cop car bellow when I hammer it to make a pass. An underdrive pulley to help smooth out the idle, give it a little low end pep and reduce the speed sag from the AC compressor cycling during steady cruise. A set of triple note air horns finishes it off, when I light 'em up it's funny to see people looking around for the Jaguar that just honked at them ... lol
