My girlfriends 98 Mustang V6 has had a bouncing oil pressure gauge the last couple of weeks. Yesterday the car started sounding like a diesel so I took it to a mechanic and he said the engine is probably gone. Went to pick it up tonight and when it started it sounded fine, no rattling at all. The oil pressure was ok for a short time then it started going down to the red. If i revved the engine it would go back to normal. It started rattling again just a little bit not as bad as yesterday. I really would like to fix the car if it does not need a engine. I am thinking the oil pump is going on it. The milage on the car is around 260k miles.
