This time: Bananas

Been wondering why they would hit my stomach like a rock, and sometimes make me REALLY sick for a day or two. I was suspecting milk. But no..Its a sub-allergy of latex allergy. Some fruits, especially bananas, have rubber/latex-allergy reactions in those who are also allergic to latex. My latex allergy is so bad, if somebody snaps powdered gloves off in the same enclosed room with me, I get nose bleeds from the powder in the air. Found that out at a tattoo convention, I knew I already had the allergy, but never realized it was so strong.

That now makes 4 :

1)Seafood products: ALL including sea salt (I'm the guy they made allergy-sheets at restaurants for..) We went to PF Changs one time, and do you know they do not have a single beef dish that does not use seafood products in its preparation? I had to eat some dodgy chicken dish, I WANTED mongolian beef. This also plays hell on my metabolism, as seafood is supposed to be the best thing for a good metabolism and low-fat diet.

2)Penicillin- Since I was 12, if I get anywhere near that stuff and I balloon up and look like a Cabbage Patch Kid. It still doesn;'t stop doctors from not reading my chart and trying to prescribe it for my annual sinus infection. I knew I had finally found a good doctor when he prescribed the right kind of medicine the first time. I hear that often times, Penicillin and Seafood allergies go together, have not seen the proof except in my anecdotal case, however.

3)Latex (That includes tapes, bandaids, balloons, condoms, breathe right strips, elastic in t-shirt necks and underwear waistbands etc etc etc) Always have to remind them at the dentist, or my mouth swells up and my face rashes bad. Also nose bleeds (see above)

4)Bananas.. and maybe a few other fruits as well. Have to research it. This sucks, its one of the only fruits I liked.

You know, for a looooong time, I have been very anti fruit. Something about my metabolism, I never crave it. Now, fruit is very anti-me. Hooray!

Only solution I see is eating at home, or whenever I go out to eat , pop some of the benadryl as a precaution and have an epi-pen in case it gets bad.

Just one more part of the world that is offended by my presence and trying to cause me harm.

Be careful dude, sorry to hear about the allergies, they must be a pain.

Some odd allergies of people I know:
I have a friend who is allergic to apples, fresh cut lawn, and the smell of vanilla.
Another who is allergic to the food dye red 40, that is in alot of stuff.
Another who claimed recently ro be allergic to Pork, is that possible? Just pork?

I like to eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches on occasion, you're telling me I could kill the peanut allergy sufferers and banana ones too? Sweet!

Seriously though that sucks, so are these allergies that have developed over time or have you always had them?

Bananas and condoms....

Hopefully a pattern isn't developing here.

If so, it's gonna be a long weekend.

Luckily, I have never even tried an avocado... I hear guacomole is good, but never tried it.

Kiwi too? Dang! I guess its chocolate smoothies from now on, no fruit left to make them with.

I guess from what I found out there is a protein found in bananas that fools the body into thinking its latex. And then it kicks in. Usually when in my stomach.

Anyhow, since about 8 out of ten bananas make me sick, and it is a recurrence that is becoming more common, I have decided to cut them out completely after finding out about the connection today, at least until I do another bloodtest with my doctor/allergist. Sudenly, things began to make sense.

One of my exes was so allergic to fruit if she accidentally had some she couldn't breathe. I had to learn how to use an epi pen just in case. Sucks man... Sorry to hear that.
