My metro has a valve tick so I pulled the valve cover off, but can't see any problems? Can anyone find anything wrong in this pic?

Assuming that it truly is ticking from the valves, I would guess that one of your hydraulic lifters may have an issue. I don't know that much about the Metro motor but that usually is the case. I was going to say one of the rocker arms may be out of adjustment but even if it was slightly off, the lifter would compensate to an extent.

A tick is usually an adjustment. Find the correct valve adjustment for the engine and give it a try. Your lifters, like the man said, could also be the problem, but chances are it is adjustment only.

It looks like the ends of the rocker arms are getting hot, color. I don't think its the case because there is a plate that pushes both exhaust valves and that would have to get hotter to discolor them so. Loosely adjusted valves make a sewing machine sound so I'm going for the lifter R&R. Go to a sound site and see if you can hear different engine sounds to isolate the noise. If it is a lifter replace them all. Mike

My metro would tick when it got low on oil :P
That was before I learned how to do the oil pan gasket.

That is, without a doubt, the weirdest cylinder head I've seen. But I don't get out much. Although I thought all Metros were overhead cam.

WAIT! That's it! Your camshaft fell out!

Aren't they hemispherical motors?

Or is that just the sprints or whatever the suzuki made?

The carburated (pre-88)'s are hemispherical heads.

Edit: Pushrod? wtf? Doesn't look like the Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro engines I know...

Whatever that thing is that's hitting the valve stem appears to be installed in the correct orientation.

A detailed post chock full of instructions, advice, web links, support and encouragement deleted because I fell for it hook, line, sinker, landing net, fillet knife, seasoning and grill.

Ok, I'll be honest with you guys. This is NOT a geo engine I was just kidding, seeing who would spot it first

This is one bank of a duramax diesel

Edit: Oh, and there is no ticking. It's an injector job.

This is why people who know a lot about fixing cars and try to help others on the net don't. Some times I go to AllData to review information and pass it on to help the Fiero community. At $170.00 a month it is information that is not available to the general public. Have you heard of the boy who called Wolf? Would you go to a police and turn in a false report? Would you pore ATF in an engine that was just rebuilt by someone else for the excitement factor? Would you please not post false stories and have others spend unnecessary surfing time?

Obviously, if "Metro" has a tick-you need to take it to a vet.

Sorry guy, I didn't mean to upset anyone. I thought being in O/T it would be OK, I guess not. Won't happen again. Maybe a moderator can just delete this whole thing? Oh and I know what you mean about the alldata, I pay for alldata pro and also mitchel on demand. Again, sorry. Hope theres no hard feelings. I was never very good at jokes.

I thought it was funny. You apologized, and thats good enough for me. I actually didn't think it was a Metro because it had too many valves, but I have never seen a Metro, and I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to cars, so I didn't want to embarrass myself.

It wont get you kicked out but it was sort of uncool.. I have a sense of humor too, but i don't think this would qualify.

Never seen a Metro engine before, but the last GEO was many years ago, so I was shocked that it was so clean with no discoloration. Oh well!

Looks like a head on a duracrap.
Edit: Read the thread. Oh the trickery! Are you doing a factory injector or a upgraded injector?
BTW, can someone help me figure out why my volvo has a tick?

Jeez, Chris. I hate such vague questions. And that pic doesn't help much. Everything looks FINE with the bottom end, and "tick" noises usually come from the top.

OH, Me too, like I never did something like that. Sorry for my ugly post, bad day I guess. You did not do anything wrong I was just venting. Being a car fixer like you, most people don't know how hard it is to deal with different car makes and customers who think the magic box we have will diagnose any problem and that we just want to glorify our occupation by charging too much. Again Sorry 1fatcat. Don't let an old man keep you from being your self. Mike

No, that motor looks fine to me... That connecting rod is supposed to be hanging half out of the block like that, aint it?

I'm still looking for that box too! Do you know who makes it? All the customers seem to know about it, they all say "You can just plug in and it will tell you whats wrong". I'll keep looking.

Welcome to the wonderful world of diesels. You really want to **** a brick. Google diesel injection pumps. Not cheap by any means. 245 is a really good price. However now would be the time to put some 90HP injectors and get some more power.

Too late for performance injectors, it's all back together. I would recommend (to this customer) a box if he wanted more power, but he doesn't. Have you seen the problems with the pipes? I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Here's what a good pipe end looks like. This system runs a max of 23,500 psi.

And here's a couple of rusty ones
