So, my gas grill has burned out its burner. Or rusted through, more likely. I'd rather not spend bucks on a whole new one, if I can just replace the burner.

Yes, its OLD. Been through at least three owners, so I don't know the original source. I'll look for manufacturer's info on it when I get home. I'm all for fixing things if it makes sense.

Is it worth getting a new burner, if I can find one? Or would that be almost as expensive as a new grill?

Check out http://www.allpartsgrills.com/

I have found that replacing parts on my Weber is much better (cheaper) than buying a new grill.

Not enough info.

The replacement for my Coleman Sierra is about 80 bucks. I braised mine after the kid broke it. No way would I pay that.

New smaller BBQ's start around 75 on sale this time of year but I might look for cheap or free ones on Craigslist.

What pisses me off is my table top Weber gas grill, they want about 25 bucks for a "flavor bar" which is a vented flat piece of sheet metal covering the burner that catches the drippings.

yup - as above - replacement parts are available. the burners are usually pretty generic, as are all the other parts, valves, grates, etc.

And even (feels disgusted for even suggesting) Wal-Mart carries the replacements.

Contact the manufacturer of your grill and ask for a parts dealer.

Same here.

Ol'e Vesuvius lives on with the help of the parts department at Home Depot.

Same here. A big ol 4 burner all stainless thing on the side of the road with a free sign. I damn near locked them up and stuffed it in the back of the element. Pulled the whole thing down, sand blasted the burners, pressure washed all the stainless and re painted all the trip pieces along with new lines all around. The thing was great! I just got a thousand dollar bbq because the burners were clogged and replacements were not cheap. Its sickening on what people throw away just because they are lazy.

Got sick of my gas grill after spiders kept getting into one of the burner tubes and spinning web, which caused fires under the control panel.

Bought a Weber kettle, 22.5". Charcoal rules.

Yes, I know gas is convenient for time and cleanup (usually), but there's no beating a filet over Cowboy Charcoal(TM).

That's right. It's all about charcoal, soaking some wood chips and dropping them on the hot coals. I also only use a chimney starter, none of that matchlight or lighter fluid junk.I do have a gas grill that i fire up for small things, like a single burger, but if I am cooking a meal on a grill for more than me, I always try to smoke on a charcoal grill.
