I don't remember too much of the 50's because I was born late in the decade. My wife and I were both born in 57. Yeah I am the older one as my wife so proudly reminds me. 1957 was a great year for cars. Anyone not like a 57 Bel Air, or 57 Vette? Cars had character back them.
My father had two interesting 50's cars I remember. The first one I remember was a 57 Dodge "Texan". It was a special two door model in black with red accents on the chrome trim and spinner hubcaps. It had a pushbuttom automatic, and of course cool tailfins. The interior was also done in black and red. I still have a picture of it.
The other was a 59 "Batwing" Impala. For the time this car was loaded. It was a two tone green and white, and had a matching two tone interior, with fabric that had silver metalized threads in the material. It was equipped with factory A/C, power steering/ brakes, and power windows! Back then the power windows on GM cars worked all the time, even when the key was not in the car. I used to get in trouble for running down the battery. I would sneak into the Impala and play with the power windows, when the car was in the garage. I also truly believed that if my father drove fast enough, that Impala would actually fly because of the horizontal tailfins.
What I woud give to have either of these cars today.........
