I used to play a lot years ago, but got out because of getting bored with what I had. Last Christmas my daughter got a Wii and I've been playin' it with her. I loved the game play and graphics....much better than the PS2 and earlier systems of course . Now a friend of mine invited me over to play a little game online with him......Modern Warfare 2. I know it's been out a while, but it was pretty new to me . Playin' it on his big screen was great. Graphics.....AWESOME. I want a new game system ! !
Now for the question[s]:
What's some good games to play? I do like the racing, covert/espionage/agent, and futuristic types. Every back side of a game package I look at is awesome.
Reason for asking is because I checked out the XBox 360 250GB w/Kintect. It seems that it is a well rounded system for the family. Especially the multi-player for the Kinect and online play for games like MW2, Black Ops, etc.
What's every XBox owners thoughts on this system?
I'm working on talking myself out of it because of the price. Is it worth the $$$?
Paul

I love my 360. If you get one, Forza is a must. I've pretty much played it into the ground. Right now I'm on a Fallout: New Vegas kick and loving it. The games that support the online multiplayer also make the Live gold subscription very much worth it as well. Forza's online multiplayer is about all I've been playing lately and I gotta say that the multiplayer keeps it from getting boring.
The 360 can be more than just a game console though. We have Netflix and Hulu Plus for movies and TV. The only TV I watch anymore is the new episodes of Mythbusters and Drew Carey's Improvaganza, everything else is watched on Netflix or Hulu Plus via the 360.
Very much worth the $$, especially since there's more than gaming you can do with it.

I played online with MW2 against others and in a private match with my friend to get the feel for it. I have never liked 1st person shooters, but I must admit I'm hooked.
Keep talkin', Rallaster. I'm a listenin'.

360 is awesome outside having to pay for multiplayer.
Paying for Live Gold is a bit of a pain, but I don't think it's that expensive, really. $60/year and it's necessary for Netflix and Hulu Plus as well. Paying for Netflix and Hulu Plus also allows you to watch anything they have available for streaming anywhere you have access to them.
kyunderdog, Forza 3 is probably the best racing game out there right now. I say probably because I haven't played Gran Tourismo 5, yet. F3 is hands-down better than NFS:Shift. Ace Combat is a good flight simulator. They attempt a story line on it, but IMO, Ace Combat 4 was the last of the good AC story lines. My G/F uses the Kinect for Your Shape(a fitness "game") and likes it. If you like RPG's Fable III is good and has a fairly rich online multiplayer experience, I've heard the Dragon Age saga is good as well.
You can buy Microsoft points and buy any number of arcade games that's available. Points are available $20 for 1600 points or $50 for 4000 on prepaid cards available at most retailers, with other point/price options available online with a credit card. Points can be used for just about anything. There are scads of arcade game downloads and a LOT of downloadable content for just about every game for the 360. Most arcade games cost 800 or 1200 points with the occasional sale dropping select games to as low as 400 points.

With what you've said the possibilities are limitless with this system. I think I'm going to get one I recently bought a 47" LED TV for the living room, but I think I'll see if I can find another for the bedroom just for the game playin' .

I got a 40" Sharp Aquos Quattron LEDHDTV and Forza, Bioshock, Fallout, et al look AMAZING. FYI, the 360 does NOT include an HDMI cable so you will have to purchase one separate. As far as the HDMI cable goes, as long as it's 1.3 compliant that's all you need. It doesn't have to be a $50 cable, I'm using a $20 and it looks just as good as the expensive one my buddy has.

Thank you, sir. That was my next question. What about a wireless router? The one I looked at at Best Buy was on sale for $90. Can't remember the name of it. He said it was compatible with my computer and wouldn't slow it down. It's all Greek to me .

If you like realistic racing sims, then you definitely want to check out the Forza Motorsport series. Or if you prefer arcade racers, check out the Project Gotham Racing series. Both are excellent. For the covert agent type of stuff, there's the Splinter Cell series. And there are several futuristic shooter games (Halo, FEAR, Quake 4, etc) and futuristic RPGs (Mass Effect, Fallout, etc).
I haven't played xbox in a while, but I bought just cause 2 yesterday, and its amazing. I love open world sandbox games like gta4, saints row 2, mercenaries 2 and red dead redemption. All fantastic games.

Forget modern warfare and black ops they are all crap until you play Battlefield bad company 2. Destructable environment, maps are 10x those in mw2 and black ops, and you can drive/pilot helos and tanks. There's a pretty good selection of maps on it also that download for free, or maybe the newest version of the game already has them. Call of duty charges $12 for 3 craptastic maps.
You can get 12 month gold membership card from amazon.com for less than $4 a month.
Battlefield and call of duty are completely different. I find myself getting bored with battlefield yet black ops keeps me coming back. It all depends on what kind of an experience you want. I try not to compare them because they are so different.
Go to Game Stop (or better yet - your local used game mom and pop store) and look for used titles that are a couple of years old. They are cheap and still great games - especiialy if you've been out of it for awhile.
Halo is of the top franchise for Xbox and has been since the beginning. Halo: Reach is the current iteration, and tells the beginning of the story dated before the original game's time frame.
If you like futuristic games another good franchise is Mass Effect. A new copy is only $20 I think, and will give you hours of fun driving around alien planets exploring and shooting at badguys.
Driving games really add up to the Forza franchise. Tons of cars, tons of tracks, great physics, custom paint jobs, etc. The only thing I'd change is... FIEROS!
If you like story telling type games, a new one comes out this week (Tuesday IIRC) called L.A. Noir. It is a 40s hard boiled detective type game where you must solve a series of crimes based on what you can glean from the crime scene, questioning suspects, etc. I CAN'T wait to buy it.
Good luck! If you get xBox live, let me know and I'll PM you my gamertag.

Flamberge,

If you like FPS, and you like REALLY GOOD RPG elements, Alpha Protocol is all sorts of kick-butt.
I've played through that game about 4 times already, just to see the different ways I can accomplish things, what having different relationships does, and the different endings.
Plus the game has been out for a while, so it should be cheap to get!
(Here's a tip, the first time you level up and you have points to spend, I found out that you can undo the points in the weapons that you won't be using. Like I never bother with the dual SMG or Shotgun, so I pull the points out of those and put them into the assault rifle and pistol - also, different equipment is available at different locations as you go through the game, so you wind up playing it a few times to find the optimal "path" to have enough cash to buy the best gear - for your playstyle. You can super-sneak through every level, go Rambo, go James Bond, or any combination of the above).

I was actually lookin' to get the PS3 until this mishap .
Id stay away from playstation. I enjoy Xbox a lot more.. its much easier to use i think the games are better and you dont see xbox live having network trouble like sony... hell just when it came back my brother went and updated his system and it crashed the whole console.

Well, I went and done it. Just got back with my new toy(s). 250BG XBox w/Kinect, Forza 3, and MW2 for me. Indiana Jones LEGO adventure/Kung Fu Panda for the kid, and Zumba Fitness for the wife . Give me a few days to a week to get things goin' and used to the system.
