What the heck is wrong with America? Before the problems in Japan, all I heard on the news was reports about Charlie Sheen, Justin Bieber, Lady GaGa, the new iPad, etc. But ladies and gents we are at WAR. We have brave men and woman overseas putting their lives on the line daily, and many of them are not going to make it home alive. Yet do we hear about these heroes? No, we don't. If you watched the news you wouldn't even know we were at war. Or even that we had lost so many wonderful brave people. This my friends is a outrage. We need to wake up and realize whats truly important, and Charlie Sheen is not it.

So for what its worth my friends in the armed forces, I for one haven't forgotten about you. I am pulling for each and everyone of you to make a safe return. Even if it goes unnoticed.

Agreed. I think this problem is not limited to the US.

I noticed the same thing but this has been going on for over 4 years now.....But if you can not tell the good Ol' USA is not what it used to be and is slowly changing......I hate to be the one that says it but it is true....Things will only get worse....

Yes, we are at war. Frankly, I prefer that it is not in the news because every time anything about the war is reported it is negative. Did the reporters ever report on the infrastructure, schools, water treatment plants or anything else that we built in Iraq? How about all of the scum bag terrorists and murderers that we have killed? Did they report on the tons and tons of food and medical supplies that we gave to the Iraqis? I don't expect the reporting to be any different in Afghanistan.

They don't report on any of the good that we do. They only report the caskets returning and when someone screws up.

I say **** the media. I would rather hear no news then their news.

I have noticed this since I have been in the Army. The news doesn't report on the good stuff we do in Iraq or Afghanistan. I/We appreciate the support! Very shortly I will be down range with my fellow Soldiers fighting the fight and supporting the efforts.

Thank You! It is my honor to serve this country. This will be my first time going down range, so I am pretty excited in a way. I have met some soldiers that have been in the Army for 18+ years and have had 12-14 deployments under their belt.

X2 on what Delorean said. Stay safe over there and come home in one piece. If you happen to run across a PFC by the name of Bryan Peterson, send him my regards. He's been there since October 2009, and was home around Christmas (set to come back again in June from the end of his deployment, then back to Germany to prep for second TOD ). I've known him for 15 years now, and I hate to see him over there (crazy arse went 11 Bravo? and is in the 2SCR regiment 2SCR ). From what I understand his unit is the only unit in Afghanistan to ever gain and hold ground in the area he's in (not sure where, speculating Kandahar, since he said they are stationed at the birthplace of the Taliban). He should be one of the guys shluffing around an M249 SAW (which he says sucks in the desert environment, due to the open bolt design).

It would be nice if we would hear more about it on the news, but unfortunately most Americans are sheep and are only interested in the latest "pop culture" news.

Hi all

I like this thread! Very much so, that, well, may I offer an opionon of what's going on underneath the news, figuratively, Japan!

Well, your going to read it anyways!!

With it being sooo close to 2012, and the end of the Mayan calendar, is, Judgement, upon Humanity at all a realization?? Why not??? Is there ANYthing that is made in this world without Japanese involment?? Whether it's physical tech, or their very own vision of humanities future....

Ya see guys, I without a doubt find that an "accident" under it's purest form, is a white lie! An offer of truth, but exagerated enuff, that it also becomse ill-logic in nature.... Is it possible that the "quake" was initiated by Gaia, the spirtual name for mother earth. A sort of slap in the face so that, the leaders in technology, would be reminded of other forms of power we should be shearching out??? Cold Fusion, like anyother word, phrase, or a truism that is in fact an offering that would lead towards truth!!! Is this where we as a scientific communitiy be heading towards now?? Seeking, searching out other forms of power to lite our world, that would either cause no damage to human life, or in the case of a dam braking, less than a nuclear disaster? Where do we consider the future lyes ahead??? How much are we willing to explore these realms??? Till we find out that Cold Fusion, though in theory is actually possible??? Is this event in the world going to change us, that a need to protect each other and all life on this planet, worthy of pursuit???? Certainly, hope soooooo!

Being sooooooooooooooooooo connected to an art form of science that well, recieves very little scientific commentary, than laughter really........... That being linguistics..... This makes me believe that intuition, gut instinct to be actually a very primitive, or an infintile next step towards 6 senses..... Ok, bableing a bit in this last part, but, has anyone else thought of reading to be a "type" of coversation? No matter fact, fiction, sci-fi, action adventure, or even detective stories to me are infact a 1 sided view point, with enuff pieces to ground them in a thinkiable reality, but also with a sensation to wonder, or wander???

Perhaps to send you or any of the people who read, on a sort of Journey? We are ALL seeking out truth!!! But ya know what, where we as beings of this planet are today, to me, is an almost complete and utter disgrace..... The story of jesus, being "gods" only son, sent here to be, murdered, but to also tell us that his mission in this life was to die for ALL mankinds sins! Correct? So why haven't we by now, as rationally considered that an "underworld" as some other cultures have referred to it, to be a fear based white lie???? Why not..? He came here to set us all free, so why are we still in the dark ages?? Under religious belief, throughtout the ages, under whatever culture you can think off..... Is this story referred to, a universal reality?? Or do other cultures whom are aware of it, also see it being what it utterly is??? A fear based white lie, to keep Mankind in check, so that we wouldn't grow, or create beyond without saftey protocols????

Perhaps, we as Knights who were placed in a position to protect and uphold the law of the day... Should we begin to re-think nuclear existence, in any way, shape or form, that could cause harm to our home, let alone ourselves????

Perhaps????????????????? The incident in Japan, was quitely a reminder that the vast amount of power derived from nuclear reactors, should be worth of greater, better protection to let us continualy exist?????

Persoanlly, I really detest the news, there is always more forms of something wrong than right!!! Could this be some sort of Shock and Awe campaign, that we as people are somehow, unbeknowest to us, making an effort that we as people, beings of a planet, not alone here, that is to say planet Earth...... Should ALL come together???? In an effort to create a utopia????

HAha, a little Star Trek, yes!!!! But, I think, therefore I am...... Even though a human being lacks the powers of say, the comic book hero Superman, those powers are infact used by his WILL.... Let's say that again, WILLLLLLLLLLLLLL..... Is it possible that one day a Human being, or some creature upon this planet on that day, learns to fly, on their own???? For the first time....

Well, keep in mind, I think therefore I am......... Is a start towards imagination, a meta-physical reality, rite???? So the only question that remains, at this juncture, is, will the power of flight on our own ever be neccessary?????

WOW!! Reading only the first post, I went on, and on, and on........... You ever get that feeling like that you could not stop talking????

eric..........

P.S. An accident, at it's most profound level, that is to say, with no other person's involvement, other then your lack of awareness in that present momment.... Think about it.... Obviously age comes into great effect here,.... But, anything else???

Hi all

That wave in this thread, comes with a kind of heavy heart... Ya see, without regard to what was the intention, I went off on a tangent offered..... YOU ALL have my humblest apology!!

However, flame suit on!!! No matter who we are at war with, under whatever circumstance!!! NOONE should ever be put in a position where your end may come!!! Ya see, even though Osama is a leader of probably thee biggest threat to the planet........... HE SHOULD NEVER be taken out, silenced, under NO circumstance should this happen!!! WHY???? Why has there always been more people working towards a better future for all beings of the earth, than less then the middle road???????? In effect, Osama, although needs to be taken care of, in a hospital!!!! He is a casualty to what was stated above...... Mankinds warped sense of humor, or justice if you so prefer.... He is a "lost" soul, however, here comes the flame, he SHOULD be fought for, not in pursuiance for more violence upon this world, but because of his passionate beliefs............ I mean, is it possible that he still knows what's right and wrong???? And therefore when thoughts arise over an end to one of him members, followers, whatever, is there a sadness in his heart???? Therefore, one could also ask.... When righteous thoughts, that is to say, for all of mankind, occur in his mind, does he write these off, with some sort of a hatred that well, beguiles (sp?) what should be done???? That is too say of course, becoming a leader for the protection of his culture, his way of life, his lands, his own government.....

Can a peace be offered, with him, and with any other criminal who precieves that an illegal, or immoral act is a better way, for power, or money, becuz of our corrupt natures...........

Like I said above, why, oh, why are we still within the dark ages.........?

eric.........

War news is long term. One battle after another. One handshake after another. TV news is sensationalism. WOW! Look at this! WOW! Now look at this! The 'entertainers' are shifting their exposure to when they want to be seen by doing something outrageous and when they do, intentional or not, the media is all over them. Look how quickly Mel Gibson has been replaced by The Winner. Who did Mel take the headlines from and how long ago was Tiger's ordeal?

Thanks for remembering them. It hits home with me, the husband is retired AF, my oldest is active duty AF, she just did a stage in and out of Afghanistan for 7 weeks. She's on C-5's and they were taking a bunch of helicopters over. My other daughter is reserve AF, but she's due to deploy to Afghanistan in May. It will be hard for her leaving her 2 little girls, they are 2 and 4, but she knows it's what she signed up for.

If we had a draft, then every family would be affected. Otherwise, it is someone else's kid who is doing their duty for their country. When some of us were in Vietnam, the total force in-country was 569,000 men and women which is more than the total number of people in the Army today. The Vietnam War cost us an average of 200 dead a week and nearly 1000 wounded per week. In the week of May 24, 1968, we lost 545 dead and nearly 3,000 wounded. Casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan are in the neighborhood of 5,000 dead after seven years of war. Because so few of us are directly affected, Americans forget there is a war over there except for some of us who care.

I was one of the hated Civil Service (nonunion) workers who make too much money and was suckling from the taxpayer's teat but my job was to support the Army. Because of this and my 23 years in the military, I feel a strong affinity for the uniformed services and I salute all of them.

DeLorean00, who is Charlie Sheen and this Bieber person?

I was in the Air Force and completely support any troops. Ive even paid for lunches at the restaurant for them or bought them a beer. Most of the public in general is in their own little ME world. They do what THEY want....talk on cell phones at the rudest places, drive like its their private road..... They dont care about anything not directly affecting them. I do think they should be all brought back home myself. Ill even bet most of them are tired of being babysitters for the world and being shot at. Unfortunately, the news only says anything when theres a headline grabbing event these days. Wasnt one of Obamas promises when he was running for president to bring home the troops in 3 months........? Then the sheep voted for him. I guess hes been too busy with golf and vacations.

I agree with you, Roger and thanks for honoring our servicemembers and your service as an F4 pilot.

Obama said he'd consider the future of the Afghan war and decided to go along with the military chiefs with regard to strategy. He did say he'd bring the troops home by May(I think) but reality is that this is a quagmire of a different sort from Vietnam. Reality has bitten the CIC.

Only the soon-to-be-unfunded hated NPR partially funded by taxpayers has a full time, native speaking American broadcast journalist in country and she sends reports daily. She spent some time with the Taliban and came close to being executed when they discovered that she is a journalist. She has a price on her head but continues to report from Kabul. Unless one listens to NPR, the war only exists when several Americans are killed or an ammo dump explodes.
