in terms of a plaque which would be better? i was put in charge of getting a co worker a going away plaque i was originally going to get a k bar which is what i got from my last command but i walked into a place that sold plaques and saw the axe and thought that was awesome they are about the same price but i dont know where an axe comes into any military tradition i can see a k-bar but the axe would just be awesome. which would you guys choose or i guess rather receive?

Come on! No questions here, the K Bar for sure! Yeah the axe would be cool I guess (ok, not really) but the K Bar actually has meaning to it and is like the Ferrari of "special cutting instruments", but the choice is up to you.

M1911.....

Never understood why ANYBODY would bring a knife to gunfight (or any fight) when they could just bring more guns.

I carried a regular axe a few times,, it got so HEAVY,
THE AXE COMES FROM ROGERS RANGERS
Many members of the 101 airborne carried axes in Viet nam to chop your way out of a copter going down & for macho effect they used a sort of Indian tomahawk axe with a metal head .lighter than normal axe.use to be a popular sale item in Mens magazines in the 70,s
People spend less time outdoors now ,, so the short axe is not seen as much as in the past
the K bar is more practical.. the axe only if for a Ranger or older 101st guy
Oceanside thats 1st Marine div territory ,,the K bar has a rich Marine tradition going back to big 2
I have used a Knife during an unexpected encounter ,while traveling in the mountainous deep woods of a foreign land ,,my group who absolutely love to travel the countryside observing the flora & wildlife while on a silent nature walk , walked right into another group of wayfaring oriental travelers ,during our meeting I did have occasion to pull a knife & demostrate my lack of skill with it..so you never know.
on the most recent Somali Pirate capture of 4 Americans on a Sailboat, some of the fighting was with Knifes
..Many prisoners have been taken by men armed only with a knife , thier are men who carry thier testicles in a wheel barrow ,,I am not one of those men..

Don't forget Sharks with friggin' lasers on their heads.

Other than the weight issue, I like the axe. Ka-bar knives are cool though. Whatever you think is right, you seem to be leaning toward the axe. Maybe he will do some camping, or a little throwing.

the cadence goes like this:

"grease gun k-bar by my side,
these are the tools that make men die!"

so K-bar is my vote.

K Bar, it's all about tradition.

BTW, you got the job because, you're the new guy.
